Card'S Board Game Cafe Description

Grande Prairie's first Board Game Cafe. Awesome, right?

We are building an amazing community hub for good eats, espresso drinks, beer, and tons of games to play, of course.

Hey Everyone, this is the LAST NIGHT that Card's will be open for the rest of the summer!
Come on down TONIGHT for your last chance to play board games, have bubble tea, coffee, craft beer, and relax in our air conditioned cafe.
Also, please order lots of food and help us empty out our fridges!
... We just found out a couple hours ago that tomorrow we lose our sidewalk and front door access for awhile, due to construction. We do not have customer access through the back door so we will close temporarily
Don't worry though, we will re-open again sometime in the fall. This is all for the best in the long run. The road and plumbing upgrades they are doing outside are very necessary.
While we are closed, it is an opportunity for us to make some interior improvements to Card's Cafe. We have some awesome plans, so stay tuned!
Thank you to the City of Grande Prairie and Wapiti Gravel Suppliers for working long hours and communicating with us. We can tell they are doing everything they can to make this as quick as possible.
Please pop by tonight before midnight to say goodbye (for now). We love you all!!! ♡

For those who missed out on the Italian Wedding soup last time, we made it again today! Come and get it while it lasts.

User

Today we played... TWILIGHT IMPERIUM!
This is the brand new 4th Edition of this classic heavy strategy space opera. It took just over 6 hours to play and was well-worth the time investment.
This game is available in our cafe library for you to try, if you are looking for something epic.

User

Happy Canada Day!!!
We are OPEN our normal hours today, 3pm-midnight.... and it is cold and rainy outside. Come on down for board games and a hot drink!

Today we played.... FLAMME ROUGE! (Paired with a Fat Tire Amber ale, of course.)
2-4 players, 45-60 minutes, simple rules.
This bike racing game has a lot of strategy to it. Advance too quickly and your cyclists will get exhausted and fall behind... so stay in the middle of the pack to take advantage of bonus "slipstream" movement. Very unique and fun game!
... Available to play in our games library. We can teach you how to play. :)

Today we visited the Farmer’s Market to celebrate their Kickoff to Summer Block Party.
While we were there we visited lots of amazing booths but there was one we thought you guys would like in particular. REDLINE ENGRAVING, is showcasing these amazing laser engraved wooden pieces.
They make custom dice towers, special deck boxes with locks, and even wooden dice! Go check them out!

User

Made some tweaks to our Italian Wedding Soup recipe today and the final result is delicious enough to brag about on facebook.
The homemade spicy meatballs are always the best part. Yum!

User

Today we played... KINGDOMINO!
This game won the 2017 Spiel Des Jahres (Game of the Year). We can understand why.
2-4 players, this 15 minute game is a strategic game that borrows rules from dominos but is its own unique game: build your own kingdom (5x5 grid) and earn the most points by grouping terrain and collecting crowns.
... The winning board that is shown narrowly beat me with a score of 33-32. So close! Time for a rematch...

Today we played... Seikatsu!
So pretty and relaxing. Each turn, place one of your birds into a flock and score it. The neat part of end-game scoring is that your perspective from where you are sitting determines how you score each row.
Let us teach you how to play next time you are here playing games. :)

User

Today we played, COCONUTS!
Okay, we know, this looks like a kids game. But it is also made for us very silly adults. And we LOVE it.
Each person gets a monkey with a spring-loaded arm that launches bouncy coconuts. Aim into cups to steal them, and try to build a coconut filled cup pyramid to win.

User

Today we played... Fairy Tile! (Now available in our cafe library.)
Storytelling and tile-laying for 2-4 players in about 30 minutes. Build the kingdom and move the characters to fulfill the narratives in your "storybook" before you opponents finish theirs. Gorgeous artwork, painted miniatures, and easy rules.
It is even more fun if your group likes to role-play a bit for the story.

User

Wow! 5 of our tables tonight are Role-Playing Game groups (Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Star Wars RPG)
Week after week, we love seeing that the RPG community is alive and well here in Grande Prairie. :)

User

Today we played... Tsuro!
All of you who have played this game before can see that on the next turn, bad stuff happened to some of those middle dragons.
This is a timeless cafe favourite that plays in only 15 minutes. The rules are simple: place a tile, follow your path, and don't fall off the board.
... This game is available to play in the cafe. We also have retail copies for purchase.

User

Today we played... MENARA! Had so much fun playing this one.
This is a brand new co-operative game. The cards tell you how many pillars to place or move each turn. Reach a specified temple height to win.
Available to play in our cafe library, and also available to purchase from our retail section.

User

Today we played... Ticket to Ride: Germany! (Now available to play in our cafe library.)
This is the newest version of TtR, adding a twist with passenger meeples. You collect passengers when you claim a route... then you get a whopping 20 point bonus at the end of the game for every colour that you collected the most of. Game changer!

User

Thank you to the AMAZING cast/crew of 'Little Women: the Musical' for coming by last night after their performance. What a fantastic group of people. :)
We have LOVED sponsoring cast parties for Grande Prairie Live Theatre the last couple of years.
If you want to check out this play, it runs at GPLT for 3 more days (Thurs-Sat) but hurry because tickets are almost sold out!

User

Hi Everyone! Just to let you know that we are CLOSED for the Victoria Day Stat Holiday.
Suggestion: stay home and watch Harry and Meghan's Royal Wedding, which naturally, as a loyal subject, you PVRed.
God Save the Queen!

WoW! I forgot I lived in GP while being here.

What a great experience! Staff are amazing here, THE BEST customer service I've had, made me forget I was even in Grande Prairie. .. My date for the night was less than stellar but staff did not make me feel awkward or embarrassed about it. I bought a membership and this will be my new escape, so many good eats, more games than you could shake a stick at, as well they have tabletop rollplay nights which I have been dieing to get back into, can't wait to try!

I've been wanting to check this place out since I arrived in GP and am so happy that I did.

User

What an amazing place. Grande Prairie definitely needed this. I'm so amazed by the little community it has created as well as all the amazing games they have. The food is wonderful, the staff are wonderful. Much love to this little café <3

User

Went to Card's Board Game Cafe last night with a couple friends and had such a great time! We were recommended 2 games we had never played before and had them explain to us how the games worked (definitely beats reading instructions!!) We sat around and played for a few hours. (Tons of laughs were had!)The atmosphere is relaxing and very well laid out.

The best part is that it's only $5 per person and it doesn't matter how many games you play or how long you're there for!

I definitely recommend Card's. There is food and drinks that you can enjoy while your their too! Great place for a family or friends game night!

User

We celebrated my daughters 14th birthday at Cards. We had SO much fun and the service was great. Their selection of games is mind boggling and they were so helpful finding us good group party games. They had a great selection of food, drinks and snacks. We'll be back for sure!

User

There is nothing better than sitting on the couches in the games library by the fire place and sipping on a cup of coffee. Feels like home, they have the best lattes in town, and the food is to die for. One of the most welcoming places to walk in to in Grande Prairie.

User

Love the atmosphere, they have a great range of games no matter what you are looking to play. The food and drinks are top notch along with the service. The owner Caitlin is a wonderful person who is very friendly and knowledgable about all aspects of her business. Would rate it higher if I could.

User

Lots of games, staff is very knowledgeable in the games, i barely gave a hint of the game I was looking for and they knew exactly what it was and helped us with a couple of the rules. The drinks and dessert were delicious and the game... well I only wish we could purchase it because it was sooooo much fun. Will definitely be going back!

User

I've went twice so far, for open munchkin night, it was a blast, great way to meet new people, I would love to play go with someone, but it's hard to find people who want to play go or even know what it is. but the place is soo fun, bring friends and go, or just find out when they do certain game drop ins.

User

I've really enjoyed cards previously but tonight I have to say I am stoked to come back! I love the new menu with added snacks, meal items and expanded drinks! I also really appreciated how attentive the staff were. They came around numerous times asking if we needed more drinks, food etc. I really liked this as sometimes I want something but you don't wanna make everyone pause the game for you. For years I have wanted an alternative to the bar scene and I appreciate the effort you are putting in to create a good clean fun environment!

If I could have one wish it would be to have mugs or to stay cups for all drinks and mini tea pots for my tea! I love the homey feel and drinking my tea outta a paper cup ruins that for me.

User

I played in last nights Game of Thrones card game tournament. I did not do well, but I had an amazing time. The people I played with were fun and helpful as was the staff. The food is excellent as well. I've gone there on non tournament days to just play games and its a great cheap way to spend a few hours. Check it out!

User

Great public space lots of friendly faces Grande prairie is happy to have you guys thanks for making the town a little bit better :)

User

From the the moment you walk in the door, you're welcomed by the friendly staff and warm atmosphere. The focus on relaxing and socializing is increased by the homemade food and variety of drinks available. It's a hidden spot in Grande Prairie, but I highly recommend it to all my friends. It's great fun for everyone, and has created many new friendships. Come check it out!

User

Every time I go here, I am amazed with how friendly and down to earth Caitlin and Cooper are. I love the awesome game selection and I think their menu is top notch and their service is second to none. This is the place to be with a group of friends or if you are just looking for some new friends. I highly recommend Card's and can't wait to go back!!

User

Card's is such a fun and unique place with a laid back, friendly atmosphere. Everyone is eager and willing to help explain new games, both the staff and other customers. It's fantastic! I've never had a bad experience there and I always look forward to going. Caitlin and Copper are incredible folks! Plus, their food is excellent! I usually go for the games, but I have been known to stop in just for their bubble tea - their bubble tea is the best in town!

User

Card's Board Game cafe is the jewel of Grande Prairie. Finally, an inclusive space for all ages. How many times have I heard "there's nothing to do in Grande Prairie!", well no more! I am so thankful for this wonderful cafe. The bubble tea is stupendous. They also have Boylans soda which is fantastic. I would also highly recommend the tuna melt, spicy chicken wrap, and dill dip. Card's is more than a board game cafe...it's a family.

User

Awesome place! Great food, great staff, and most importantly great atmosphere. Grande Prairie is a fairly boring place to live, so there needs to be a business that brings people out and experience something new and different, this is the place.

User

Amazing staff they are so up-beat and happy to help. Amazing selection of craft beer and coffee/espresso!! Great place to go to even just get some work done on the computer! Good food selection too, 10-10!!

User

Absolutely amazing and love it and looking forward to next time

User

Absolutely a fantastic place to go with friends or family. great place to test run a few games before buying them. great staff and food. it will get noisy during the busy times, but that's all part of the fun.

User

Happy Canada Day!!!
We are OPEN our normal hours today, 3pm-midnight.... and it is cold and rainy outside. Come on down for board games and a hot drink!
