The fire ban east of Highway 820 has been lifted. Fire permits will not be issued, which means that only small camp fires are permitted.
The fire advisory and open fire permit process in the remaining portions of the County remains in effect.

A wildfire is currently burning in the southeast corner of British Columbia, creating smoke that is visible in the southwest corner of Cardston County. Crews in British Columbia are currently fighting the fire, and crews from Alberta Agriculture & Forestry are on standby. We are monitoring the situation in conjunction with the MD of Pincher Creek and will provide updates whenever possible.
In the meantime, those with sensitivity to smoke should take standard precautions such as limiting outdoor activity and keeping house and vehicle windows closed.

Due to moisture content, fuel load and future forecasts, a fire ban has been implemented east of Highway 820, including all towns and villages. No open flames are permitted (including pits and incinerators), except for BBQs.

Please note that construction to upgrade the Police Lake Road will commence shortly. We expect that the road will be oiled by early fall of 2019. Please expect delays due to construction and consider alternative routes to Police Lake.
A significant portion of funding for the project was achieved through successfully applying for and receiving a grant from Alberta Transportation for nearly $1.9 million. If you have any questions regarding the project, please call our office at (403) 653-4977.

FIRE DONATION SCAM:
From the Town of Magrath: "The Town would like all Magrath and area residents to be aware of a new scam that is seeking donations for the victims of the recent Fox Creek and Yellowhead County fires. They are apparently using the name of members of our Fire Department to do so. Please ignore any requests in this regard, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to call the Town office."
