#Sanitation is everywhere in the news today, thanks to Bill Gates! This is a great step forward towards solving the world's water and sanitation crisis. The WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme estimated in 2017 that 3 in 10 people worldwide, or 2.1 billion, lack access to safe, readily available water at home, and 6 in 10, or 4.5 billion, lack safely managed sanitation.

Dr. David Manz invented the biosand filter in the early 1990s at the University of Calgary. In 2001 he co-founded CAWST and made his invention freely available for humanitarian means.
Thanks to Dr. Manz, millions of people around the world have clean water in their homes.
For his lifetime of achievements and service to humanity, Dr. David Manz was inducted into the Alberta Order of Excellence on October 18, 2018. This is the province’s highest honour a citizen can receive and... it is an official part of the Canadian Honours System.

Effective Community WASH Promoters (CWPs) play an essential role in sustainable WASH program implementation. They are a key link between organizations and communities.
As a Trainer at Pure Water for the World - Haiti, Jean Pape Ferolus develops the capacity of CWPs to work with individuals so they can achieve behaviour change in their communities. For the last 5 years, Jean Pape has been honing his water quality testing skills with CAWST. He has been part of the team on 3 pr...oject evaluations and has helped to teach Delivering Effective WASH Promotion workshops with CAWST in Haiti. He recently achieved his Water Quality Technician certificate.
Warmest congratulations to Jean Pape for this amazing milestone! We are proud to walk beside you and so many amazing trainers around the world over the years, as you work to transform communities through capacity development leadership, advocacy, and championing for positive change.

The 10th Annual CAWST's Youth Wavemakers is today! These amazing young students and their teachers will leave the Wavemakers Summit with a plan to take #wateraction, engage their community, and make a difference.
Youth involved in the Wavemakers program have reached over 100,000 Canadians with their action projects. These projects showcase the amazing work being done by youth to impact water and sanitation issues locally and globally.

In acknowledgement of his outstanding international impact, Dr. David Manz, co-founder of CAWST and inventor of the Biosand Filter (BSF) will become a member of The Alberta Order of Excellence. This is the province’s highest honour a citizen can receive and it is an official part of the Canadian Honours System. The investiture ceremony is taking place today at Government House in Edmonton.
"In 1995, David patented the BSF, but took a humanitarian rather than entrepreneurial approach to the venture. He sacrificed potential personal wealth in favour of the satisfaction of helping those in need of life’s most sustaining commodity, safe water."

(not to mention personal friendship and thankfulness in my previous life for the wonderful times & relations with @Camille Dow Baker & @Derek Baker) I do hope somehow they both receive this message from Patty Harrington (now re-married Herchek ..and living in Edmonton) Hope to hear from either or both of you...personal heroes of mine - never forgotten! and CAWST wiil be the recipient of a bequest from myself and husband Gary. <3 you both and the awesome work of CAWST ! <3
