Many women approach their VBAC labor with some anxiety. Although they may have gathered the information they needed to make informed decisions, emotionally they may still question their ability to complete the process of labor and birth. It’s important to encourage mothers and remind them that they have the power and ability to give birth. . . #skintoskin #celebrate ... #birthdoula #undisturbedbirth #vbacwithoutfear #childbirtheducation . 📷 credit @francinepiresfotografia

“A crucial role for birth attendants in these times is to ensure that a woman’s mammalian instincts are protected and valued during pregnancy, birth and afterwards. . Ensuring unhurried and uninterrupted contact between mother and baby after birth, adjusting the temperature to accommodate a shivering mother, and to allow skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding, and not removing the baby for any reason- these are practices that are sensible, intuitive and safe, and help to syn...chronise our hormonal systems with our genetic blueprint, giving maximum success and pleasure for both partners, in the critical function of child-rearing.” ~Dr. Sarah Buckley . . #yycdoula #skintoskin #birthmatters #doulasupport #reddeerdoula #edmontondoula #undisturbedbirth #leavingwellalone #childbirtheducation #gentlebirthgentlemothering . . 📷 credit @kaleymunday

For all of you that listened to the hour long midwifery chat on CBC Radio One Calgary today we’re compelled to respond to the NICU nurse that called in. . Her comment that hospital birth is safer than home birth was her opinion not a fact! . Here’s what the research really tells us: “Today, for healthy women with no medical complications, it is as safe, or safer, to give birth in a birthing center (not a hospital labor-and-delivery suite that has simply been renamed “a birth...ing center”) or at home, where trouble is neither expected nor created. . Fully prepared, vigilant midwives [and physicians] who attend home births are able to handle a wide variety of variations and complications at home. . They are also prepared to transfer the mother to a hospital, if such action is indicated. . A meta-analysis of the research suggests that “women who have no factors that contraindicate a home birth, and who prefer a planned, attended home birth with facilities for prompt transfer to hospital if necessary, should not be advised against it” (Enkin et al., 2000, p. 251). . I suggest that not only should we not advise women against home birth, but we should also actively encourage more of them to carefully consider it.” . My husband and I took the prenatal class with Erin, the class was packed with useful info, especially being first time parents, we felt so much more calm and comfortable after the class. She's very open and honest and you can tell she's passionate about anything and everything to do with the birth process, and afterwards. She is extremely knowledgeable and answered every question we could think of, she also accommodated our busy schedule. I would highly recommend the prenatal class and Chavah Child Birth Services.

My husband and I met with Erin over 6 years ago when looking to hire a doula for our first child and knew right away that we wanted her at the birth of our first born. Unfortunatly my first birth experience ended in a c-section. 6 years later and pregnant with our second child, we contacted Erin right away to see if she was available and lucky for us, she was! Erin was the caring, nurturing and strong support person that we needed during the second time around, especially when trying for a VBAC. She is very informed and knew all the answers to my questions and supported all of my decisions. Erin is very comforting and just what I needed during my labour and delivery. When I felt like giving up, Erin's strength and encouragement helped me stay focus during the second stage of my labour. Without her, my VBAC would be non-existent or just not as beautiful as it was. This birth experience was what I had hoped and planned for and in the end we made it happen with the help of our Doula, Erin. Thank you Erin for everything!

My husband and I attended prenatal classes with Erin in 2013 and it was a wonderful experience. We felt prepared and empowered for the birth of our child. Her approach was to present all of the information in a well organized, complete and unbiased manner. We felt she encouraged us to be informed about our choices and be confident in our abilities to really enjoy our birth experience, which we did very much.

Erin also provided post-partum doula support in our home. I looked forward to her visits and she provided great support in those early weeks. She provided us with meals, baby care tips and general support. I felt she had an instant bond with our baby that added to my joy at a very happy time.

Over the past 16 months since our child's birth, Erin has been an ongoing support to me through our community's Breastfeeding Circle and we have developed a friendship that I really value. She has told me that her professional goal is to provide 'continuity of care' and she has achieved that fully for our family. Her caring and supportive nature make her perfectly suited to her profession of choice. I would highly recommend her services to anyone looking for quality prenatal and postpartum support.

Loved Erin's Birth Education Classes so much that we knew we needed her to be our Doula for our first child. Things did not go smoothly near the end of the pregnancy and we were so fortunate to have Erin there to help us through. Big Love for this woman and all she does!ÔøΩ

I'm a young mother, and was completely terrified of birth. I literally had anxiety about almost every day the last month of my pregnancy, but with Erin's positive words, and encouragement kept me strong and able to go through 24 hours of back labour drug free. I would recommend this to everyone, I will never go through labour without one.

I cannot thank Erin enough!

User

I would recommend Erin's private prenatal classes to everyone. It is very nice to be able to have a safe place to ask any questions you or your partner have. I appreciated Erin's perspective and experience. She really does help ease your mind and leaves you feeling empowered. We did two evenings with her at our home and that was perfect for us and our needs. THANK YOU ERIN!

I was very blessed to have Erin attend my son's birth. She provided me with lots of information, and helped me achieve my goals during labor. She is a great support and help to both mother and birth partner, and works well with the medical team. She did all that she could to make me comfortable, and made sure that I changed positions to keep my labor time as short as possible. She is a calm, reassuring, presence in the delivery room. I would highly recommend her if you are expecting!

User

I was so lucky to have Erin as my doula. As a to be first time parent, Erin educated my partner and I, answered any and all questions for us and offered tremendous support for us. During labor and delivery, Erin was comforting, soothing, empowering as well as a excellent coach that gave me the delivery I wished for and more. I highly recommend Erin for all of the services she provides and will use her services with any other births I will have in he future.

User

I highly recommend Erin to all parents wishing to experience blissful birth, birth preparations, and postpartum care. She is always a call away to give beautiful, thoughtful -yet evidence based information. She is organized, innovative, caring, and has a heart for birth and all those who are apart of that. Thank you for being right where you are meant to be in the lives of others and in mine.

User

I had an in-home appointment with Erin. Erin is friendly, has a calming presence and very knowledgeable. I felt much more confident in my intuition and in making some decisions moving forward after her visit. Thank you Erin and Chavah Childbirth Services!!

I contacted Erin early in my third trimester - my husband works away without a set schedule and I was hoping we could squeeze in some Childbirth Education during breakup. Erin was so helpful and flexible in arranging a day for just the two of us. She welcomed us at her families' gorgeous acreage and customized a day of education suited to our needs.

It was so relaxed and was a perfect pace. Our pregnancy was deemed high risk from the start due to my own medical concerns - Erin was integral in explaining the usual processes that would happen at the hospital and encouraging us to have a birth plan for what was within our control. This resulted in my husband and I feeling at peace and empowered while surrounded by so many medical professionals. The education surrounding the birthing process, breathing, and positions were essential and we put them to use!

Our daughter arrived at 34 weeks, catching everyone by surprise - she was 3.5lbs. We spent 29 days in NICU. I contacted Erin several times during our NICU stay with concerns and questions around breastfeeding and pumping. We started breastfeeding right away but then she had to be on a continuous milk dripped so I pumped every feed for 21 days - Erin was so helpful in these phone

calls which would usually start with me saying I had one question and end an hour later after I asked her 20 000 "what ifs".

I am so grateful to have received the Education and Support - Erin is so knowledgeable, genuine, patient, and empowering.

I cannot say enough positive things about Erin and Chavah Childbirth Services Inc. If you are on the fence, PLEASE make it to the end of this review!

My boss (Dr Amanda Tulk at West Valley Chiropractic) had Erin for her birth and they have a standing relationship. She recommended I seek out some assistance after I exposed that I had no idea what I was doing. I needed help being pregnant, discussing my desire to breastfeed, and even more so, getting over my fear of childbirth. Our pregnancy was VERY much a medical miracle, and we didn’t know where to start.

OVERVIEW • Not only does Erin have the most up to date knowledge on all things baby, birth, delivery, and breastfeeding; she had insight to share about every insecurity and unknown topic that I brought up. She was more than supportive with any question I had for her, and went above and beyond to ensure I had the tools and resources for whatever it was I had to tackle.

PREGNANCY • Through my pregnancy, she had met with me, stayed in contact, was always available, offered insight to all of my questions, and provided resources on topics to prepare me for just about anything. She was very accommodating initially when my schedule was literally crazy and I was living way out of town.

CLASS • We did a private class, in the comfort of our home. Erin was able to coordinate with our hectic schedule, and fully accommodate us to make us comfortable. The class was BEYOND worth it. As a woman with a fear of childbirth, I felt VERY confident and at ease with the idea. A total 360!

INDUCTION • When my induction came quick and fast, she was available and accommodating. She reminded me of my options when I forgot I had any, and was very supportive when I was initially alone. I felt way better having Erin to communicate with while I was waiting of my significant other to join me.

BIRTH • During my birth, Erin supported, comforted, and stepped in when my significant other was pushing through exhaustion himself. She kept him in good condition to be supportive to me. She was easy to get a hold of, and came when we expressed we needed additional support. She reminded us constantly of our options available during a birth that wasn’t exactly what we had hoped for. We were able to keep an open mind with the education that Erin had provided us to make the best of a less than ideal situation. It was very positive! She was by my side for the birth, was able to coach us through techniques she had taught us, and encouraged both my significant other and I to express our wants. She gave me the tools to be confident through birth, which was a big fear of mine. She documented our journey, and took some photos for us that I am very glad I have now!

BREASTFEEDING • When baby came, she was there to assist with breastfeeding support immediately. She coached us through the techniques she gave to ensure baby had a positive path paved to feed. He rocked it, and Erin was a big part of us having that confident first experience. She gave us space and invited us to contact her at any point, as well as touching base with us after a period of time when all was said and done. After baby arrived and we were home, we had feeding challenges. Erin was a phone call away, and suggested a visit to see how baby fed. She gave me many tools over the phone, and provided me with resources to utilize until our arranged visit. Although baby slept through our visit, Erin was able to come and discuss some second-guessing I was having.

POSTPARTUM • At our most recent postpartum visit, Erin made sure to review the entire experience with me, and gave me an outsiders perspective. Which was very helpful having had some mixed feelings about my birth and postpartum experience. I am now confident in how beautiful the experience really was, and am able to cherish it forever.

OVERALL • Erin is a professional. She is personable, confident, and extremely knowledgeable. She went above and beyond to ensure we were educated, knowledgeable, confident, and a great team. I would be confident to meet anyone on the Chavah Childbirth Services Inc team knowing what I know now, and how much Erin cares for her job. One can easily tell that she has passion, and was made to do this job! I would recommend Erin and anyone on the Chavah Childbirth Services Inc team to anyone for any of the services they provide! I could not imagine doing this without Erin on our side after giving us the ability to see the confidence in ourselves. I am also all about women empowering women, and through the entire period, that’s exactly how I felt, and how I now feel as a mother!

RECOMMENDATION • 10/10 would recommend. 10/10 would do it again - knowing that things change. 100% positive experience and well worth it!

Erin is so knowledgeable, she is an excellent facilitator and her sense of humour adds some much needed fun to the learning process. I would highly recommend her services if you’re looking for a prenatal education!

Beautiful lady - inside and out. We took the prenatal classes with Erin and consulted with her re: Breastfeeding. Very helpful lady.
