Today we meet with Zewdi Asfaha which was the worst representative to this branch , I came to open account and she was very rude from the beginning and was question why we are coming to this branch and why we are opening business account and why we are not happy with the other bank we have
kept interrupting us and never listen and she was asking my son , do you see your parent reasonable or not ?
what kind of question is this ?
she was very hard to deal with and she advice us in the end to take our business away from CIBC because she have her own problems there , she said she always fight with the all the departments
woooowww
also she was asking very personal questions , like what is our net worth and why we are coming to CIBC
very hard person and she was very angry or in bad mood or she is like that ,
any way am glad I will not open any accounts with them to Avoid this person

I took my mom to this CIBC branch to open a senior chequeing/saving account because we weren't satisfied with her previous one with TD. It turned out that CIBC (at least this branch) is way worse than TD. A few weeks after we opened the account, we received a letter from CIBC, asking us to fill out a form regarding the reportability of my mom's account to US tax agency, because when the account was opened, it was indicated that my mom could be a US citizen, or was born in US. We were shocked because my mom had never been to US, how could she even be a US citizen? We visited the branch to figure out what went wrong and at first, the rep tried to shrug us off by saying that every new customer is required to do so. We pointed out that we've had accounts with at least 4 other banks and had never been required to do so, and that there must be a mistake in her profile that reflected the lack of professionalism of CIBC and influenced the trustworthiness of the bank. The rep then looked into it and found that when someone was entering my mom's information into the database, they mistakenly chose the nationality as "US", instead of "Other". The rep promised to correct the mistake and called us a few days later, saying that things had been taken care of.

A few weeks later, we received another mail from CIBC, reminding us that we haven't sent them that US reportability form yet, and if we don't in a few days, her account will be automatically reported to US tax agency. We were outrageous, because either the rep didn't really solve the problem and lied to us, or the departments within CIBC don't communicate at all. We had to book another appointment and brought this issue to a new rep. Again, she started with trying to persuade us that this is a form we ought to fill out. We then explained why we shouldn't have to and why this was an unacceptable mistake. We also expressed our deep disappointment of the unprofessionalism of CIBC. The rep promised to take care of it and sent us an email a few days later, confirming that it was the poor communication among the departments that caused all these unnecessary issues.

I've never really bothered posting negative reviews of businesses. I leave positive ones when the experience is pleasant, but I I feel negative reviews can sometimes be only 1 person's experience, and damaging to a company's reputation. That is NOT the case here, this CIBC branch is horrible! (2015 16 Ave NW, Calgary, AB T2M 0M3)

I opened a CIBC account here as my mother lives in an area where CIBC is literally a 2 min walk from her house, convenient for me to send her funds when needed. When I met with the branch manager to do so, I brought in a small amount of money (cash) to start the account up with (I think it was $200 to $500). The manager then proceeded to question why cash, and that this particular branch did not tolerate "funny business"?!? I then explained this was money we had left over from a trip and she still claimed it was suspicious? I told her at that point that this made no sense, it wasn't like $5000 plus? She then asked if my last name was Arab, because "we have to watch suspicious activity". I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I asked to speak with another manager and he basically brushed it off. No apology.

I called in shortly after to see if I could get the organization to explain this situation and acknowledge this was wrong, but I have not heard back from CIBC.

I work in the business development industry and often give talks on customer service. To this day, I still use that CIBC branch as an example of what NOT to do, and I give this talk often. If in this day and age a company is still discriminating based on race, gender, age or any other unjust factor, there's a problem. The fact no one has bothered reaching out with a simple apology, leads me to believe this may align with the company's core values and beliefs.

That is why I felt the need to share this review, take from it what you would like. At a time where 'we the people' have to band together to stand up against intolerance, it is important we carefully choose which organizations out there to support.

I have been using this branch since 2012 and never had any problems so far! All their customer service reps are so friendly and couldn't be any happier! Even when I got better deals from other banks, I still wished to remain with CIBC and especially this branch!
