From Joe-Norman Shaw Started discussing adding to the Company of Rogues curriculum with long time Rogues last night. Looking towards next year. Would love to know your interest in three possible additions- not just for yourself- but as they fill out our menu of classes. - An evening Intermediate Film & TV class that encompasses some of the Advanced Film/TV curriculum into one term; renewing each 11 weeks. - Sunday Night Improv - Musical Theatre- providing some basic singing ...and dance training
This is the beginning of a discussion. Thoughts?
Thanks Susan Rowland, Michelle Ruta-Roth and Jerod Blake for your passion and you input.

From Joe-Norman Shaw: An awesome day at Rogues Studio yesterday! Excellent work in both my Film and TV and my Advanced Scene Study classes- with great audience turnout to see the final Shakespeare scenes last night. Thanks to all our actors for their awesome work and dedication- and to those who so graciously came out to support them. Makes me so proud of our Rogues’ family and what we’ve so passionately created together over the last 25 years.

From Joe-Norman Shaw Emerge Auditions 2018
Wow- what a pleasure! This year was the strongest and most consistent showing we've ever had for our Emerge Auditions. Stacie and I would like to thank all auditioning actors for their excellent work--and for their time, effort and dedication. Selection this year was difficult due to the high quality of auditions we saw.
... Congratulations: AJ Anwar Kirsten Garcia Sasha Monica Abagail Vanmerlin

I agree. Good directors and teachers empower the actor. Believe and encourage - from that, good things come. Love, passion and compassion are all essential to the creative process. Joe-Norman Shaw
“A good director doesn't tell an actor how wrong they are, or how muddled. A good director is like the good friend my father was: A friend of his was depressed, in a bad way. Almost everyone told him to buck up, snap out of it, but my father only told him how much he missed his good... friend, the real man trapped in whatever sadness had consumed him. My father's friend improved.
"You do the same with any artist--actor, writer, designer: You remind them of what they have and what they've done and what they can do. You keep shining light on the path they're taking, and you occasionally help them with the heavy load they've taken on."--Elia Kazan #FolliesofGod

What an awesome ride! I was in the original Crow’s Theatre production at The Poor Alex and subsequent tours to Ottawa(NAC), Montreal And Mexico City. Joe-Norman Shaw
Thanks Jim Millan. From his post on the Theatre Passe Muraille page.
Crow's Theatre had its first out of control success with Unidentified Human Remains and the True Nature of Love by Brad Fraser. Starring Brent Carver, Lenore Zann, Duncan Ollerenshaw, Kristina Nicoll, Joe-Norman Shaw, Arlene Mazerolle and Danny... Daniel Kash at the Poor Alex. But it was the transfer commercially which we cobbled together for a continued multi month extension which transformed the way we thought about the possibility of success. A wild time which our rent helped keep the wolf from the TPM doors. We also learned what hard work a long run was. (And it turns out the Box Office Manager bragged later on she robbed TPM and Crows blind during the run skimming the box). A reservation was taken by phone and written by hand. Glorious and fun.

There are a few spaces left in the Essential Scene Work for Stage, Film & TV class on Wednesday nights! Get your spot now! Because in the words of James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) "...when I say "experience" I don't mean acting in another major film - I mean taking acting classes, scene study, local theater, student films - an education in acting. It IS a skill set, and not an easy one. If you want to work in the field, expect to be prepared."

Wishing my Company of Rogues family a happy 25th Anniversary! For the 42 year old me who wanted to try acting as my mid-life career change, Rogues was there for me. I missed the boat on drama school but they convinced me you can be an actor at any age. Joe, Christianne, Stacie and Aaron taught me to embrace all of those things about myself I usually tried to hide. Being vulnerable and sensitive is a good thing and I learned how to remove my mask and share my real self with confidence. We are all so afraid of looking weak, weird, embarrassed, self conscious or dumb but when you learn to embrace acting-or rather BE-ing (in front of a camera or audience) it becomes a strength not a weakness in the acting world. My lessons have helped me live more authentically in my day-to-day life also. This studio is a real gift with their nurturing ways and professional approach. I tell everyone I know to take acting classes at Company of Rogues because it will make you a better, happier, authentic, empathetic, confident person. Plus it is SO much fun! @corogue #companyofrogues #actor

Those who know me would likely say that I am seldom at a loss for words, however I can honestly confess to feeling 'superlative deficient' when it comes to describing my own personal experiences with and assessment of Company of Rogues both as a learning institution and a personal-growth hothouse. Being a self-confessed 'student-for-life' of Company of Rogues, I can say without hesitation that Rogues has been ( and continues to be ) an essential and truly indispensable part of my journey both as an actor, and as a human being. Rogues is the rare kind of learning environment that both encourages and inspires students to fully immerse themselves in the quest to behave ( and live ) authentically and unself-consciously within imagined circumstances. To fully engage heart, soul and intellect and truly discover - and unleash - the passionate 'actor within'. Beyond the rigour and the artist's discipline that the Rogue's faculty so patiently and ( seemingly ) effortlessly instil in every student is the heretofore unnamed secret ingredient that unfailingly unlocks every student's deeper sense and understanding of themselves - and their own limitless potential, both as artists and, perhaps most gratifyingly, as people. Invariably launching every Rogues student on the self-discovery journey of a lifetime. One that will last an equal length in duration. Hence my own 'self-ascribed' designation of devotee, attendee and genuinely appreciative 'Rogues Student For Life.' From a ratings perspective, Five Stars simply aren't enough.

I will never forget my first Rouges class with Joe-Norman Shaw and for the first time realizing that acting isn’t “acting”, it’s “being”.

After that training with Christianne Hirt, introducing me to all the facets of this life long journey into craft, forever changing my life and stoking the fire of my passion that turned into a career and forever changed me as a person.

I have been studying at Rogues off and on now for 4 years and now I say fareware (for now). I am off for a new adventure in Vancouver and I can honestly say, from the bottom of my heart with pure authenticity that the mentors at Rogues have taken me on journey that I didn't no was possible, working within, digging deep, being vulnerable and letting go has been the most challenging yet enjoyable and exhilarating experience. I highly recommend Company of Rogues you will find things you didn't you had or could do and you will make great long-term sincere friendships.
