I cannot express how poor he is as a doctor. I understand that specialists are in high demand, but regularly being over an hour late for appointments is insane. I waited 45 minutes past my time - and I was the first appointment of the day. Then, you see Dr. Alarm for about five minutes, four of which is him talking at you.
If you do go to him, try not to let him know you have eczema or have ever had it. Literally everything you complain about will then, clearly, be eczema. I had a spot show up on my stomach a month or so after a severe sunburn. He didn't even look at it and decided it was eczema. It wasn't. It doesn't appear cancerous, but I'm still waiting to get into a new dermatologist that actually knows what they're doing, so I guess we'll find out.
Other than that, I went in with a serious scalp issue. He looked at it once, decided it was just a severe case of dandruff. Told me to use a tar shampoo. I did so, and it did very little to help the severe symptoms I had. I went back and, without ever looking at the offending skin again, decided that it's probably psoriasis. Gave me a prescription for a spray on medication. I used it and it did absolutely nothing except smell awful on my scalp and dry it out further. I went back a third time. Still without looking at it again, he decided that injections of cortisone into the scalp should help. After about 20 injections there was no improvement. I went back again. This was about the time he learned I get eczema. Without looking at my scalp again, which by now has worsened exponentially, he decides it's eczema and there's absolutely nothing I can do.
I have now been dealing with this issue for 7 years. Nonstop. It has been diagnosed as a fungal infection and I am now on my way to clearing up the issue. Every solution he offered made the situation worse because it did the opposite of what was required. He told me to wash my hair less - fungal infections thrive in oil. I needed an antifungal shampoo with active ingrediants. An oral solution is necessary I now because it has progressed so far. It never should have taken this long, and if he had listened to my symptoms or looked at the afflicted area for more than 30 seconds, this could have been solved long ago. I have lost a great deal of my already thin hair, I now have severe damage to the sensitive skin at the nape of my neck, and I spent 7 years embarrassed by the itching, flaking, dryness of my scalp.
Dr. Alanen is nothing but a snake oil salesmen. Brusk speaking and all. Maybe if he tried caring about his patients he could be a halfway decent human being.

My doctor referred me to Derm.ca as I noticed my hair was thinning. She told me that she didn't have much knowledge on it but that they would be able to help to determine the cause and give me more information. When I arrived at the clinic they had me wait 45minutes before seeing someone. When I finally was brought in a nurse asked me if I was a vegan which I replied with no. From this point forward she didn't ask me anymore questions or even bothered to look at my scalp. What she did do is begin trying to sell me very expensive procedures! She gave me no information or even tried to help identify the cause just tried to sell me expensive procedure . I wasn't even seen by Dr. Alanen !!! I would not recommend this place to anyone!

Great physician and staff. I was seen promptly. He diagnosed the problem. We discussed treatment and then he dealt with the issue. I was in and out within an hour and my problem was solved. Perfect!

I've been going to Derm.ca for the last couple years and I've always received great service from Ildiko. She has such a warm personality and makes you feel comfortable at every appointment. She gives great advice for her clients. Thanks!

I was referred because I have long-term body acne and my doctor recommended Acutane. I had to wait 45 minutes for my appointment with no apology for the wait time. I was diagnosed in less a minute without the doctor even looking at my skin! Dr. Alanen just told me I just needed to exfoliate better and use an acid wash. He didn't believe me when I said that washing my face and body every day and using the salicylic acid and benzoyl acid washes just dried my skin out and didn't help my acne. He didn't even ask me three questions about my acne, let alone look at it. I couldn't understand a word he said, he was talking so fast, and when I asked him to repeat himself he looked angrily at me and kept talking. Eventually he wrote me a prescription (actually, he got the nurse to do it because he's so lazy) and my name was written wrong. No one there had any concern about pronouncing my name or making sure it was spelled correctly. I am extremely disappointed in Dr. Alanen. I can only hope my doctor will refer me to another dermatologist who will actually want to help me.
