Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship to reopen in January 2019
The popular Parent and Grandparent (PGP) sponsorship program will reopen during the month of January. This program allows Canadians to sponsor their parents and grandparents to become permanent residents.
How does the PGP work?
... Eligible sponsors will have to submit an Interest to Sponsor form when the program opens in January 2019. Those who submit the form the earliest will be invited to apply to sponsor their parents or grandparents to become Canadian permanent residents!
Are you eligible?
Both the sponsor and the person being sponsored must meet certain requirements to be eligible for this program. Sponsors must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are living in Canada at the time of application. As well, all sponsors must meet a minimum necessary income requirement, proving that they have enough funds to support the sponsored family members when they arrive in Canada.
All persons being sponsored through this program must be either the parents or the grandparents of the person sponsoring them. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements as determined by the government, so significant medical or criminal problems could render a person ineligible.

Employers who require a Labour Market Impact Assessment under Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program should submit their application “as soon as possible” in order to avoid worsening delays, the government says. A notice published October 29 by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) says Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program “is currently experiencing an increased volume of Labour Market Impact Assessment applications” and processing times are expected to inc...rease in the coming months. “We are making all necessary efforts to minimize the impact on employers seeking to hire temporary foreign workers,” it reads. “We therefore suggest that employers submit their application as soon as possible to avoid any additional delays.” A Labour Market Impact Assessment, or LMIA, confirms that an employer has followed the required steps to recruit a Canadian worker for the position they are looking to fill with foreign labour. ESDC, which is responsible for Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program, has attributed the delays to technical issues associated with its transition to a new platform for assessing LMIA applications.
