The Ophus Process makes use of a bio-based solvent to rapidly liberate the hydrocarbons, reducing the mechanical energy and eliminating the pH control typically used to recover bitumen in surface mineable projects. Bitumen recoveries from oil sand exceed 96% , while over 98% of the bio-based solvent is recovered and recycled. The modular process plants can be scaled to maintain mobility and match the size of resource and available water supplies. With over 95% of engaged process water recycled with the process, the use of tailing ponds is not required thereby allowing concurrent reclamation of mine pits and minimizing further liabilities.
