I get many calls on this type of issue.
Tech support scams are where scammers are using scare tactics to trick you into paying for unnecessary technical support services that supposedly fix your PC or laptop, operating system, or software problems.
Scammers begin contact by displaying fake error messages on websites you visit, displaying support numbers and enticing you to call. They can also put your browser on full screen and display pop-up messages that won't go away, esse...ntially locking your browser. These fake error messages aim to trick you into calling an indicated technical support hotline. Note that Microsoft error and warning messages never include phone numbers.
If you get one of these “pop-up” screens,.. don’t panic,.. simply power down your device and restart it,.. then do a full system scan using Windows Defender.
DON’T CALL THE PROVIDED PHONE NUMBER!!! (Note that Microsoft error and warning messages never include phone numbers.)
If you do talk with the scammers, they will offer fake solutions for your “problems” and ask for payment in the form of a one-time fee or subscription to a purported support service. Never give your credit card number!! That’s what they are after!!
What to do if you already gave information to a FAKE tech support person. And especially if you have already engaged and paid for fake support:
Uninstall applications that the scammers have asked you to install. Run a full scan with Windows Defender Antivirus to remove any malware. Apply all security updates as soon as they are available. Change your passwords. Call your credit card provider to reverse the charges, if you have already paid. Use Windows Defender Firewall to block traffic to services that you would not normally access.
If you have allowed the scammer access to your computer (remote log-on) they likely have installed malicious software,.. this will need to be removed by a professional.
If we may be of help,.. please call us at 780-270-7903 (Easy PC Computers)

Slow internet?
I receive a lot of questions on this matter
Slow Internet can occur as a result of several factors, some within, and some beyond the average user’s control. For example, "the type of Internet provider being used" (IE Cable, DSL, Cellular or WISP and the computer's / phones features and configuration can affect connectivity and speed. The speed of our Internet connection via wireless may be influenced by the location of the computer (phone or tablet) and whether... other wireless devices are within the same area sharing bandwidth. Some problems may be resolved through basic troubleshooting procedures.
Traffic on the Network: It stands to reason that if several people are connected to a network at once, the Internet speed will slow down. Nowadays, gaming devices, smartphones, Internet-enabled televisions and laptops or tablets are a big part of people's lives so having these simultaneously connected to the Internet can pose problems in connectivity.
To do a proper speed test,
Connect to a wired connection: Plug in your device directly to the modem or router using an Ethernet cable. (for this reason phones are not preferred as they are not capable of being “hardwired”
Disconnect wireless connections: Limit the connections to your Internet as much as possible. Disconnect any wireless connections (turn off your phones / tablets ect), and unplug other wired connections to your modem or router.
Inspect the router and modem: The router and modem can be one or two devices. Flashing green lights usually mean both are running correctly. An orange light indicates a problem. Unplug both, and then plug them in again. This restarts them and can correct potential problems. It may be necessary even if both have flashing green lights.
Now run your "speed test",.. Still not seeing what you are paying for?
Try another device: Connect to the network with another computer (or use a smartphone only as a second choice) to determine if the problem is with your computer. Common computer problems that can block Internet access include viruses and incorrectly configured firewalls.
And lastly but just as important,
Server Settings: Every time we connect to the Internet, a server has to translate the domain name into an Internet protocol address. Internet service providers typically assign a default setting to a network but it may not be the fastest. With a little know-how it can be advantageous to tweak the settings on a device to a faster server, thus increasing your Internet speed.

Phishing,.. (If you have fallen Prey,. We can help!)
Phishing is when a scammer uses fraudulent emails or texts, or copycat websites to get you to share valuable personal information – such as account numbers, Social Insurance number, or your login IDs and passwords. Scammers use your information to steal your money or your identity or both. Scammers also use phishing emails to get access to your computer or network then they install programs like ransomware that can lock yo...u out of important files on your computer.
Phishing scammers lure their targets into a false sense of security by spoofing the familiar, trusted logos of established, legitimate companies. Or they pretend to be a friend or family member.
Phishing scammers make it seem like they need your information or someone else’s, quickly – or something bad will happen. They might say your account will be frozen, you’ll fail to get a tax refund, your boss will get mad, even that a family member will be hurt or you could be arrested. They tell lies to get to you to give them information.
Be cautious about opening attachments or clicking on links in emails. Even your friend or family members’ accounts could be hacked. Files and links can contain malware that can weaken your computer's security . Do your own typing!. If a company or organization you know sends you a link or phone number, don’t click. Use your favorite search engine to look up the website or phone number yourself. Even though a link or phone number in an email may look like the real deal, scammers can hide the true destination.
Make the call if you’re not sure. Do not respond to any emails that request personal or financial information. Phishers use pressure tactics and prey on fear. If you think a company, friend or family member really does need personal information from you, pick up the phone and call them yourself using the number on their website or in your address book, not the one in the email.
Turn on two-factor authentication. For accounts that support it, two-factor authentication requires both your password and an additional piece of information to log in to your account. The second piece could be a code sent to your phone, or a random number generated by an app or a token. This protects your account even if your password is compromised. As an extra precaution, you may want to choose more than one type of second authentication (e.g. a PIN),.. in case your primary method (such as a phone) is unavailable.
Back up your files to an external hard drive or cloud storage. Back up your files regularly to protect yourself against viruses or a ransomware attack.
Keep your security up to date. Use security software you trust, and make sure you set it to update automatically.
Hope this helps!
