There’s a common misconception that dogs don’t need to be groomed, or only groomed minimally, over the winter months. The (erroneous) belief is that a dog’s winter coat comes in and should be allowed to grow long to protect and warm the dog. In addition, because dogs, like humans, often follow a more sedentary and inside routine in the winter, many people feel that their dogs aren’t ...getting dirty enough to warrant bathing. But this is simply not true. In fact, in many ways, grooming over the winter months becomes even MORE IMPORTANT to the health of your dog than at any other time of the year. Long, wet, matted hair easily makes a cold, wet, and infection-susceptible dog.
While it’s true that double-coated breeds and others with thick, long fur are more winter-ready than short-haired dogs, the “blessing” of these thick coats in winter can turn quickly into a curse if the fur isn’t maintained in a healthy condition. Fur that’s matted or packed doesn’t insulate or provide warmth; instead, it provides discomfort, pain, and hot spots. Matting can even lead to infections below the skin, so when considering the effects of letting the grooming go, consider how your dog’s health may in fact suffer as a result. Grooming isn’t just for a beautiful dog (though this is obviously one noticeable effect), it’s also crucial for your dog’s good health.

We've moved around a lot, so over the years we've taken our pets to a lot of different Vets. Ellerslie Pet Hospital is by far the best we've been to. I can't thank you enough for your outstanding Knowledge & caring!

We switched to Ellerslie Pet Hospital just over a year ago when our vet left from a clinic we had been using for 7 years. I can't day enough about Dr. Kate and her team. They always take such great care of Molly anytime she needs to go in there. They go the extra mile to find the root cause of a problem rather than just prescribe. The animals care is always their first priority.

We have been going to this location since they opened with both of our dogs. Our one dog who is no longer with us had chronic ear infections. The vet worked tirelessly with us to try to figure out what the issue was. We had been to 3 other vets before they just put their hands up. Loved the dedication and determination of the vets here to help diagnose the issues. Still go with my Pom and wouldn’t think of bringing him anywhere else.

Thank you so much for the compassion and care while I said my final goodbyes to Jackson. Losing my fur baby was devastating to say the least but your staff made it as best as possible. Thank you for taking the time and patience to create the beautiful paw print, I will cherish this gift forever.

Ok. So been here twice with 2 cats, kitten and an 11 year old. They took the kitten on no notice for getting neutered because the other vet office didn't show up for work. Fantastic service. When I took my 11 year old, Dean made sure we wanted to proceed with things like blood work because he wasn't too concerned but we wanted the baseline. He also clearly explained costs beforehand. He recommended dental work and also clearly explained costs and where that goes, gave us a copy and has not rushed us with a decision.

Love, love, love � We took our Rottweiler Lexi here for her 1 year check up and booster shots. The staff is amazing!!! Dr. Mandrusiak was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He took us for a tour of the facility and answered all of our questions. And today in the mail we received a handcrafted thank you card for coming to see them. Overall very impressed and we definitely will be back for all of Lexi’s vet needs.

Just wanted to give love to all the staff!!! They didn’t hesitate to take in my cat this week even though they were booked up. They genuinely care and they are all super friendly and helpful! I wouldn’t go to any other vet after the amazing experience I’ve had with them! My kitty shamus and myself thank you all for saving his life!!!!

I've been taking my dog, Koda, to EPH for 2 years now and I love how amazing they are with her! Koda had a traumatic experience 3 years ago when she was attacked by another dog at a kennel and had stitches down both sides of her body and many scary vet visits. So needless to say she's no longer a fan of vet clinics and her appointments are always a struggle now.

Luckily I found EPH cause they're so patient with her and really go out of their way to be sensitive to her fears and poor behavior. They're always really good about going over everything with me at each appointment. Just this week she had dental surgery to have her teeth cleaned and Dr Mandrusiak called me twice during the surgery to keep me updated and Katherine actually sat on the floor and cuddled her as she was waking up from surgery. It was so comforting to know my sweet girl was treated with so much love. They always call to follow up and see how she's doing too.

I was evacuated from fort mcmurray due to the wildfires and EPH got me in next day (on a Sunday :) ) for an exam for my anxious dog. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helped my dog remain calm, the calmest I have seen him in a long time! The exam was complimentary for my pup as part of the clinics donation to those evacuated and I couldn't be more thankful to them! I highly recommend this clinic for anyone with a dog who becomes easily stressed or for anyone looking for an amazing clinic!

I have been coming here since they opened and have received nothing but absolutely amazing service, treatments and grooming. The clinic is exceptionally clean and I loved the tour, I recommend all of my staff to come here for any of their furry friends needs.

I could not recommend them enough! They are the most incredible pet hospital I could have ever imagined for our kitten. They give friendly reminders and the most adorable mail addressed to our kitten Nymeria. They are personable, kind and friendly, and most importantly my kitten enjoys going. I can't thank Ellerslie Pet Hospital enough for getting my dog in on an already crowded Sunday. I work away, and if I didn't get her in on Sunday, I'd have had to wait a whole week to get her seen. The vet was direct and thorough, and although I live clear across the city, I am more than happy to give my business to such a caring facility.

I Have only been to this Vet once, Unfortunately it was to put my cat down, it was a Sunday and my normal vet was unavailable, they were able to get me in for the last appointment of the day, I can tell you they were very good with my Cat and me For that matter as you can image I was not in a great place, they gave me as much time as I needed even though it was already past closing they never rushed me, A few weeks after they even had a picture frame with some of my cats hair a paw print and a little poem made for me .

Have been taking my one dog here for almost 8 years or more, the other almost 6. Always have gotten the needs met of my pets and have never been overcharged. In fact my one dog had a large lump/tumor removed from her chest and when I saw the bill I was extremely surprised at how reasonable the price was.

At first it was good. All the doctors like Greg parks were amazing. Then Dr kewish came in and prices/examinations for minor and easy diagnostics a fortune. Switched vets and now back to normal pricing and superb diagnosing by simply knowledge and experience

This vet has to be the worst vet clinic I have dealt with in years. If you guys can't handle upset customers than maybe you shouldn't be dealing with the public. The owner/manager is a real piece of work. Banning people from the store because of a disagreement. In reading through other reviews and complaints, really seems like the owner/manager has no people skills. Have you ever had any manager customer service training? Sure doesn't seem like it at all. Out of all the many many vets in the city, don't waste your time or money with these guys. They only want your business if you don't differ from their opinion.
