This weekend was the weekend of champions! Many of our members competed and walked away with some hardware! Congratulations to our trainor Hannah @grayareastrength and her daughter, Shannon, who placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. Props to Brandon who walked away with gold in his weightclass. Floor Chest Press and Shoulder Floor Press.
... I choose to utilize the floor press to keep my shoulders good and healthy without undue stress. This ensures my Olympic lifts won't suffer from this movement. It allows me to focus on strengthening and growing my upper body (Delts, Triceps, Pectorals) because laying on the floor takes out any leg drive. You can go heavy for strength, or keep the weight moderate for sets of 8-12 for hypertrophy. I'll next superset floor presses with floor shoulder presses (or a modification of the Arnold Press). Again, taking the legs out of the picture gets the trunk fully engaged and creates a focus on the shoulders and all of the antagonist muscles. You should not be arching your back and focus on bringing your ribs down/engaging your core for stability. The weight should be heavy enough to be somewhat difficult when reaching the 8th to 10th repetition, but not so light that there's a lack of control.
