I drive average 4000-6000km per month 15-20 hour per week driving. Sometimes I listen to music, but I mostly listen to podcasts or e-books and try to learn something and maximize my time. I often take client calls on the road and take driving time to relax because very rarely do I have time to relax during my day to day life. I love grabbing coffee and snacks and getting excited about what my week has in store as I drive down. Than on the drive back reflecting back on how ama...zing my adventures were. . . . #mountainmike #hikewithmike #yegfitness #yegfit #yycfitness

As I drove up to the trailhead Saturday I couldn’t believe my eyes. Dozens of vehicles lined up and a huge group of people waiting 😮. Getting to share and experience my passion with this incredible group of people was unforgettable. The thing that stood out to me the most were the endless smiles and laughs. Watching this video and seeing so much happiness even with tired lungs and burning legs will be something I will remember forever. From the bottom of my heart; thank you ...to each and every one of you for making the drive out from all over Alberta to as far as Vancouver. Thank you for sharing your smiles and energy I hope you all enjoyed this as much as I did. Please tag or comment everyone that was on the hike in the comments. And if you or a friend are interested in joining in on HikeWithMike 2.0 let me know! . . . #HikeWithMike #MountainMike #KingletLake #TuffPuff #albertalife #albertacanada #albertalife #davidthompsoncountry #arcteryxwestedmonton #arcteryx

4 DAYS UNTIL OUR HIKE!
I will be heading out and in the area Friday morning camping at the Big Horn Dam. Camping here is on Crown Land and requires no booking or reservation and is FREE. There are no services it is literally a chunk of land (SO GORGEOUS). You can drive into the area we will be camping out. There are a few different options if you choose to camp out.
-You can sleep in our vehicle. ... -I will have tents that can sleep a total of about 10 (let me know if you want to reserve a tent hehehe)
The Big Horn Dam is very close to Nordegg (see the pin dropped on Google Maps for the exact location).
**VERY IMPORTANT** The hike starts at 11AM SHARP. Be early and don’t miss out start time. Kinglet Lake, AB is the location we will be meeting at for 10:30am SATURDAY MORNING. I will also have a PIN dropped for this location or if you Google Map Kinglet Lake you will see it. It is about 4 hours from Edmonton!
The total hiking distance is about 14km! 7km up 7km down. We will NOT being going at a really fast pace, we will be taking breaks, rest stops and having Lunch at the lake. You do not need to be extremely fit to come along on this hike, however a good degree of fitness is HIGHLY recommended, I do not want to leave anyone behind, I recommend bringing a friend along!
For the hike you will need:
Hiking Boots or Runners Shorts/Pants (weather pending) Toque and Gloves (you never know, it can be windy on the summit) A light jacket or wind breaker WATER Bottle and Snacks or a Lunch Towel and Swim Suit if you want to swim in the lake Backpack to carry your stuff
For Camping you will need: Cloths you would bring from camping, warm cloths, light cloths whatever Blanket and Pillow for sleeping FOOOOOOD! DRIIIIINKS BYOB for the after “party” Whatever personal items, I think we are all adults so bring what you need to stay alive for a night hehe.
There IS cell service at the campsite but NOT on the hike.
Remember you can do a day drop for JUST the hike at 11AM SATURDAY JULY 7. And if you would like, you are welcome to join in camping in the evening!
Please message me if you have any questions or concerns! Spread the word bring a friend, be spontaneous and come h

They say a picture is worth 1000 words. In this case words could never do this place justice. Even photos can not capture the beauty. This area is one of my all time favourites for obvious reasons. . . . #mountainmike... #yegfitness #iamyegfit #yegfit #yycfitness #yycfit #landslidelake #albertalife #albertalove #albertacanada #backcountrycamping

The next few days I’ll be camping deep into the backcountry. I hope too many of these guys don’t visit me 🙊. I was contacted through social media that a fellow had come across my YouTube channel and by chance I was fishing off a raft he had build. It is way off in the middle of no where. Sunday he is flying his Dad (for Father’s Day) and his friends into a remote mountain lake to meet us! How cool is that? . . . #mountainmike... #yegfitness #iamyegfit #yegfit #yycfitness #yycfit #albertalife #albertalifestyle #albertacanada @ Alberta

**Are you interested?** July 7 I will be planning a follow along hike with BearBear and I. I’m still working out all details but it will be a moderate hike (possibly 2) for those feeling ambitious. It will likely be in the Canmore/Kananaskis/Banff area OR Abraham Lake. You are welcome to come alone but I recommend bringing a fit friend or two along because we will be going at a decent pace and you will be responsible for yourself! You can either do this as a day trip OR camp out and make a weekend out of it. If you are interested comment below and tag a friend and I’ll put together a group with details as they come together ❤️. Come HIKE with MIKE. . . .

Weight Loss Alert!!!
This hot Momma came to me a few months after giving birth to her third kiddo determined to shed the baby weight. Crystal did 2 sessions and 1 at home work out per week, stuck to her flexible diet and lost 32 pounds, and 36 inches in just 3.5 months! From feeling the post baby body blues, to feeling the best she ever had, Crystal turned into an absolute fitness machine, you would have never known this amazing woman ever had 3 children. I can not stress eno...ugh, if your New Years goals are fitness related, please do not go overboard! Hitting the gym every day and doing a 360 on your nutrition is not always the answer!! Remember it takes time to develop bad habits so it takes time to develop good ones. Fitness does not need to consume your life, set small attainable goals, and make fitness a part of your life. Balance is always key!

Weight Loss Alert!!
Andrea has absolutely killed this past year. She has lost 35.2 pounds since she started. Now that might not sound like much, but what if I told you she lost that weight while consuming 2600 calories a day? Working out just 3, 1 hour sessions per week, she was able to eat all her favourite foods and drink non alcoholic AND alcoholic beverages. She didn't have to work out every single day and she didn't have to restrict herself to a low calorie diet. New Yea...rs Resolutions are around the corner, so I want everyone to keep in mind that completely flipping your life upside down, working out 7 days a week and eating what you think is healthy, is most likely not the answer to your weight loss prayers. Andrea trusted the process and has been a shinning example that fitness doesn't have to control your entire life, it's all about balance. I'm very proud to not only call Andrea my client, but also my friend and my family. I'm very excited to see what this next year brings us.

Random thought- Just about every time I post a picture of something “unhealthy” or “junk” food I get a flood of messages saying things along the line of That’s not healthy! Did you actually eat that? That’s processed! You eat McDonalds?
Ya I ate that, yes its processed, 2 Mcdoubles no onions, 2 Jr. Chickens and an Oreo McFlurry with Extra Oreo.
This post could get extremely lengthy but I will save that for a future post/posts. ... Ready for this… HEALTHY is more than just your food choices, its more than organic, its more than micro nutrients, its more than macronutrients, its more than calories, its more than vitamins and minerals and “super foods”. So many people and “coaches” look at nutrition from a micro level, they don’t look at the bigger picture. Many of the “healthiest” eaters I know are the most unhealthy people. Physically they might be well off, however when your diet consumes your life, your thoughts and your feelings you are no longer healthy. Physically good, mentally horrendous. Handling the mental side of things is equally or more important.
A good diet is a diet that is flexible, balanced, sustainable LONG TERM and allows you to feel good both physically and mentally. It should allow you all the above and still reach your goals.
Trust me, for years I did the 5 meals a day in tupperwear, loyal to my diet, living in a deficit, low sugar, low carbs, low sodium, blah blah blah. It wasn’t good, I wasn’t happy, my life revolved around my nutrition. As time went on I researched, trial and errored, researched, doubted, researched, resisted, researched, approved. Flexible dieting is incredible. Myself and majority of my clientele use flexible dieting or some “hybrid” of the system. I never thought I could get away from the negative relationship with food I had, now I can eat just about anything I want within reason and feel good, not just physically, most importantly mentally. Trust us on this one.

"Not" cooking with Michael, Season 1 Episode 2 has now aired. Every Monday 🙋🏼‍♂️😬.
In this video you will see an Omelette in a mug. I was SUPER skeptical about this one but it is amazing! Remember you can add in anything you want and adjust it to your individual needs.
Secondly you will as a "7 super foods salad, protein edition" cause you know there are such things as "super foods".
... There is a Kraft creamy poppy seed dressing that you can use as a substitute if you are trying to keep calories lower. You can also use a cheese grater to shred some apple into the mix which really freshens it up and adds flavour.
Enjoy!!!

Quick meal ideas are the best! If you are anything like me you are often flying out the door from place to place which could make healthy/macro friendly eating a challenge. Convenient foods are often high carb and high fat, protein is more challenging. Here is a quick idea I often use when I am in a pinch (I'm in a pinch a lot 😬). Do you have any quick high protein snacks, meals or ideas? I would love to hear them 👇🏽.
