About Fixer Upper Chick
Fun, Fast and Frugal Ways to Create Beautiful Homes.
Fixer Upper Chick Description
Simply put, I am all about creating beautiful things without spending much money.
I transform and flip homes. . . turning them from total disasters to turn key houses that would make any homeowner proud to own. I am VERY frugal, so I shop the deals, buy second hand or even DIY projects myself to maximize the beauty of both the homes I flip as well as my own home.
I am a small town raised, hardworking farm girl who left home at 18 to move to the USA, then onto England. I have a master's degree in Kinesiology and I do exercise therapy with patients with kidney failure.
I have been married for 10 years to my university sweetheart, Jay - an Olympic medallist in speed skating, an international speaker /presenter and the current municipal councillor for our beautiful MD of Foothills (SW of Calgary near the Rocky Mountains).
We have two beautiful healthy children, Shelby (age 6) and Kayden (age 2).

So.....I have leftover rustic laminate flooring from my last flip. I’m wondering about whether I should do a faux wood feature wall in Kaydens “man cave” muscle car bedroom.
Last photo shows a few pieces of the proposed wood look. Thoughts??
Beginning, mid reno, and completion!
Feeling pride, excitement and exhaustion at the same time. Love this final reveal.

Sneak peak! This week we had our “pink Mary Kay” house staged, photographed and listed ......and our first open house is Saturday!!
Back in January, this fridge didn’t fit its space in the kitchen.....a HUGE mistake on measurements by my former contractor....so we now have a nice set of cupboards above instead of an ugly and uneven MDF wine rack (never do wine rack above fridge...as it ages your wine faster!) My fridge now has 1/2” on each side. Yaaay! #fixerupperchick
The last month has been one of the toughest of my life.
I know it will make me a stronger, more confident woman.
I will learn many things from this experience that will serve me well on future flips and reno projects!
... In the meantime, I work hard and enjoy special moments with my "fixer upper chicklets."

Some beautiful countertops were installed today.....and yes, that's a 50 sq ft kitchen island!
We were up "S*#t Creek" with all the surprises our "Mary Kay" house threw at us.... Now things are fixed (all new wiring, proper deck and sunroom engineering, and new siding) and the house can be put back together. #fixerupperchick
It's like Christmas! Look what Amazon delivered! I'm thinking they might work quite nicely on my newly painted vanity!
Now, shall I distress the paint finish a bit????🤔
Here is my kitchen inspiration:
Just ordered a pot filler for a huge "wow" factor (as my design-savy contractor says).
We will have white cabinets with long stainless steel pulls, steel gray granite countertops and hexagon tile backsplash.
... The butcherblock island has a commercial faucet on a granite composite sink.
Finally, all appliances will be brand new stainless steel Fridgidaire brand.
Fancy "schmancy"!!

Got my weekend project.....hate to paint over wood, but my contractor has his big "design vision" set on me converting this dresser into the bathroom vanity at my "Mary Kay" flip house.
It will be painted with Benjamin Moore's Chelsea Gray, distressed, and finished with dark wax. We will set a white vessel sink on top with chrome faucet.
Dresser cost $125.00 on Kijiji and I hope to keep entire project under $400.00 with paint, plumbing, vessel bowl and faucet. Let's see if I can stay under budget! 😬
Never in my life would I have imagined that I would end up with 150lbs of baking soda in the back of my ride.....but here I am! Next week, my pink house will be "soda blasted" to prep it for the new exterior paint!!
Putting "lipstick on a pig" is something we DON'T do when it comes to house flipping.
We do it RIGHT so our buyers have a safe, sturdy and beautiful home. (We hire only the best contractors and trades workers!)
Sometimes it will eat a bit of our profit, but we feel better knowing it was done properly!
Post cabinet demolition...
Lunch time Demolition anyone?

When shopping for your next flip requires a "Haz Mat" suit, a respirator and signing a waiver!! No.....we did not go in!
