ATTENTION: All Active and Inactive Members of Flamingo Music & Arts Centre RE: Termination of Services – Studio to Permanently Close
... Dear Flamingo Music & Arts Centre Members and Families past and present.
It is with a very heavy heart and tears that we write this letter is to inform you that Flamingo Music & Arts Centre will be closing its doors permanently effective September 1, 2018. We have taken great pride in being Calgary’s most affordable music studio but sadly due to increasing operating costs and expenses, as well as a significant drop in community funding, and funding for our sponsored children, we are simply unable to remain open for business.
The Board of Directors in conjunction with members present at the Special Meeting on July 2, 2018 unanimously voted in favour of dissolving (closing) the organization and selling its assets to pay outstanding debts. We are having a sale beginning immediately to clear out our entire inventory. We’ll be offering large discounts on all items, instruments, and fixtures and hope you will come take advantage of these savings. As we incurred a large debt over the years, we welcome any donations and financial gifts.
Please note that summer lessons will continue as normal, completely unaffected by this statement.Summer lessons were pre-paid in advance and are non-refundable.We will stop accepting summer students effective Tuesday, August 7, 2018 (this is an extension from the hard-copy letter mailed to you).If you would like to take lessons from your current instructors one last time, please register for August lessons by emailing us.
The Flamingo brand will not be lost.All unsold assets and the brand will be donated to the National Arts Organization, Fondation ArtsConnex Foundation operated by our very own, Nick. This Foundation will consider reviving the studio in the future with a heavier emphasis on Special Needs and at-risk youth music education with the resources that a large organization can offer. In anticipation for the permanent closure, we have mailed you your 2018 Tax Credit Receipts via physical mail. If you do not receive it by Friday, August 10, 2018, please contact Nick by responding to this email, as we cannot send out documents once the centre ceases to exist. You will not receive a receipt in January for 2018. This is the one and only time to get the receipt.
We thank you for being a loyal member for the past several years that we have been in operation. If you have any questions about the sale or anything else, I can be reached exclusively via email at info@flamingomusic.ca, as we will be shutting down our phone line. Please do not contact me regarding studio matters on my cellphone. Email only as everything has to be documented.

NOTICE OF A SPECIAL MEETING Flamingo Music and Arts Centre will be holding a special meeting on Tuesday July 3, at 8:00 p.m in the school office located at 301-12 Manning Close NE in Calgary. We request members to attend in person. The board will discuss the issue of the lease for the space and setting the fall lesson rates.

Truly amazing

One of the most down to earth/kind hearted person I have ever worked with/met. Helped me jumpstart how to teach kids and understand music. The lessons were always superb and definitely knows how to pace the students but also challenge them enough to grow. A great positive environment, always light hearted and supportive. Definitely recommend and would point to her if anyone needed lessons.

My former piano teacher and now my very hardworking and amazing friend Challena has provided myself and many with the opportunity to learn music affordably at her Flamingo Music and Arts Centre school. She treats her students, guests and staff at her school as her family, and you would be very lucky to be part of this family. She has opened many opportunities for myself including being a former piano teacher at her school and other organizations. The Flamingo Music and Arts Centre team continues to work very hard to provide a joyful and amazing learning environment for students and families of all ages, and of different learning needs and financial situations. I am truly blessed and grateful to have met Challena and her wonderful team who continue to do amazing things for the community!

Flamingo Music truly cares for their students and they go the extra miles to provide personalized instruction. They are committed to continuously expanding their knowledge and working hard to give their students the best possible musical education. The care that they put into every lesson ensures that you are in good hands. Flamingo Music is anything but boring and it’s well worth the time to explore lessons through their studio. Highly recommend!!!

Challena is finally fullfilling her dreams of running Flamingo Music.I have been to her concerts and in all experiences I have seen students who were happy,engaged and learning!Calgary is lucky to have Challena and Flamingo music in operation !
