Hi, my name is Tom. 6 years ago, I quit my well-paid engineer job and have run this rental business ever since. Many of you are curious with a few questions in mind, why not let’s start with the top 3 most common questions I have been asked over the years?

Question #1- Why did you quit engineer job and being a landlord?

The short answer is curiosity always gets the best of me. Engineer job is great in terms of paycheques and security, but it became less and less challenging with time passing by. On the contrary, landlording, combined with the internet age and technology, makes a perfect field for me to explore, learn, create, and grow, while applying my engineering principles. It actually gives me the best of the two worlds! Six years after, it is fascinating and intriguing than ever. I am sure I won’t be bored for a while 🙂

Question #2, Why does “Flying Stone Canada Ltd” really mean?

Once I had a lawyer guessed this name had something to do with Chinese martial arts, which I confess that I know next to nothing. Can stone actually fly? The answer, is an absolutely yes. It is true that you will never see stone fly right in front of your eyes normally. But looking again, closely, through the light… all the tiny little dusts floating in the air, are no different from stones except its tiny sizes, while they are flying all the time litterally. How about look far into the universe? all the stars, planets, are humongous flying stones too. The point is that our perspectives shape our worlds that we believe in. As long we keep our minds open, and be curious and creative, we shall see and make our worlds differently. What has this to do with renting business? Actually, everything. For example, instead of doing what has been done all the time, change everything here and ask: can showing the property and cutting CO emission too? can move-in and out inspection done without property manager in presence? Can you live in a place for free, and actually making money from landlord at the same time? Can you learn a new language while you are staying with us? Yes, they all can, just like stones can actually fly….

Question #3, Your tagline, make impossible happen naturally… sounds interesting, but how?

The key here is naturally as nature always has the best way to get things sorted out. So I like to do everything in the most natural and genuine way I could. The videos below are great examples to demonstrate how this works. After getting into student housing business for sometime, I thought it is only natural to ask around for feed back about how do we do in the video format of 1 minutes or so. All I did was to ask in a simple, natural and genuine way. And many said no naturally, and some said yes quite naturally too with the permission to put videos here as well.
