About Foothills Foundation

Foothills Foundation is a not for profit Housing Management Body originally established by the Homes for the Aged Act in 1959. In 1995 it was incorporated as a Housing Management Body under the Alberta Housing Act (Ministerial Order H0227 /95) and the current Ministerial Order H022 /2010 - July 2010. It is under this mandate and buy agreement with the participating partnering municipalities that Foothills Foundation provides safe affordable housing opportunities and services. From it's origin of operating one seniors' lodge located in the Town of High River, the Medicine Tree Manor, our organization has expanded to meet the housing needs of our clients. We now operate, in partnership with the Federal, Provincial and Municipal Governments, four seniors' lodges and seven seniors' self contained centres in the communities of High River, Black Diamond, Turner Valley and Okotoks. These centres currently provide housing accommodation to 334 seniors. In addition to our seniors' portfolio, the Foothills Foundation provides subsidized family housing. Twenty one low income families are provided housing in Okotoks, Black Diamond and Turner Valley. In 2009 Foothills Foundation began construction of six Affordable Housing homes in Black Diamond and six homes in Okotoks. The progam will futher expand to Turner Valley in 2011. To complement our Private Landlord Rent Supplement Program, the Foundation accepted administrative responsibility for the Direct Rent Supplement Program in 2007 and, in 2009 added the Rent Shortfall Subsidy Program. Currently Foothills Foundation provides rental assistance to over 200 households.
