About Forestland Horse Training

I strongly believe in ground work as a factor in a solid foundation. Gentle sturdy hand - “make the right thing easy and the wrong thing hard. "

Ive been seeming to have alot of interest on "how did you get your horse to do that" or " how did you teach that".. Is anyone interested in trick / liberty work lessons? I can travel if so.

Meeting them where they are at.
Here is a picture of my grandparents neighbours dog, Charlie. She had an abusive past and there for became very fearful of people. She would bark quiet alot and if you approached her she would jump up at you and snap. My young insightful self saw it was a pure fear reaction, and it became my new goal to befriend this dog. I spent every free minute with her, trying to find a way to gain her trust. I came up with the idea to sit just past the le...ngth of her tether , for safety, so I sat. She sheepishly over and then began barking at me , then walked away. I stayed sat there for a little, and moved a foot or 2 closer to her after i saw her relax with me in her space, and it repeated, on and on i came a bit closer, as she did she, and then she came over and sat by me, i went to pet her and she got nervous, so I retreated and then she came again and I reached to pet her again and made contact, after a few pets approximately she fell into my lap, literally.
My thought process to sitting down with her , at her level, was watching her with my grandpa and dad, she wanted to be close, but then became intimidated i think by the size and posture , and acted out. It took my grandpa months to pet her, he didnt put in the hours with her that I did nor the game change to help her be okay. It was an incredible experience ill never forget, and I think it greatly applies to horses and training also.
I think its un fair and entitled to assume animals are on the same agenda as you. In my opinion you need meet them where they are, and move together from that point. I was ready to pet that dog and take it for walks, but she was very evidently not, I listened and respected that. I think a big goal in training is to be a team with the horse, which requires communication and understanding on both parties. And the grace period to learn each other.

dawn's 3rd ride. awesome little girl. camera quit before we did anything exciting.

little baliey. she was pretty sure she had much better places to be this morning.. so i said ok, let's go where you think its better, lunged all the way out of the arena, up past the round pen, down the alley, almost to the barn, settled, lung all the back to the arena, got what I was originally after, and let her rest for a good 5 min of rubs and pets. then asked her again, no issues. I learned this way to " let horses win " from Warwick schiller. and it has proven to me many times to work wonders opposed to " making the horse do it " " you have to win " because i did win in the end, i let her convince her self that what I was asking was a good idea by just staying with her and letting her sort her self out, then we ended with a awesome second ride . thanks for helping me with that jarret.

We have a three year old that Kaitlin trained for the MacGregor Trainer challenge. He is extremely calm and such a pleasure to ride and work with. This is all due to the great foundational training she put into him!!! Excited to get a refresher from her after a loooong winter. Would highly recommend

User

Very helpful and fun to work with! Explains everything she's doing and not only does she help the horse but she helps the owner too! Highly recommend

Kaitlin's approach to horse training produces quiet, well handled, and sane horses that will excel under saddle. She takes time on all of the little things that make a solid-minded animal, which unfortunately, many trainers rush.

I really appreciate her honesty and down to earth communication with me regarding my horse and his limitations, his manners, and his quirks.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kaitlin to anyone looking for a fantastic start on their horses, or in my case, a tune up for my obnoxious thoroughbredX.

Kaitlin did a great job with my clyde mare. I sent her for breaking and to get more confident with going out by herself. I’m very happy with how she is now, very soft in the bit and leg pressure, woah and back up and she even taught her to line up to the fence so you can actually get on lol. Anyone looking for some work done with their horse, I would highly recommend Kaitlin!

I own a 4 yr old Arabian gelding, he was raised on our farm and from day one he was wild and spooky. I managed to halter break him, handled his feet, etc but I just felt like he would never be my forever horse. This gelding was a challenge and spooked at his own shadow, so I decided to have some training put on him and put him up for sale. I was looking through kijiji and saw an ad for horse training, the girl in the photo was riding an Arabian filly, so right away I was interested and called her. I spoke briefly with Kaitlyn, made up my mind she was the one I needed, took the gelding, and told her just do what you can, he's for sale! In two weeks (or less) Kaitlin was riding bareback in a halter on this little gelding, he was already a different horse, just needed the right person to start him! Once she had done what she could for Sharaz he was sent to a friend of hers for some exposure to the world. Needless to say, I changed my mind about selling this awesome little horse, and I have never felt safer on a young horse! I am truly happy to have found such a knowledgeable trainer, and so young too!
