About Forget Me Not Day Home

I have been a family day home provider since June 2008. My day home is in the Linkside area in Spruce Grove. I live in a quiet residential neighbourhood with a fenced-in backyard, and there are also two playgrounds and soccer fields a short walking distance away. I provide homemade meals and healthy snacks as per Canada Food Guide regulations.

I have my Level C First Aid and CPR training through St. John Ambulance, and my husband and I both have valid Drivers’ Licenses and our RCMP Security Clearance, as well as our Child Intervention Record Checks. References are provided at our interview. I love volunteering: I am a Girl Guide leader, School Council Member, and on the Marriage Preparation team at our Church.

Over the years, my child care philosophy has changed and grown as I have studied and learned more about early childhood development. I recently became inspired by the teachings of Waldorf, Montessori, and Reggio- Emilia, and have incorporated different elements from each into the day home space. We follow a daily and weekly rhythm, so the children have consistency and know what to expect each day. We follow a seasonal rhythm, exploring the variety that each season provides. We have mostly wooden toys, and use lots of loose parts in our play! There are games, puzzles, and sorters so we can learn math, colours, and shapes through play; but also plenty of singing, dancing, creating, and imagining that happens each day. We don't use work sheets or flash cards, and focus on child-led learning, following and exploring their interests.
