Thanks for stopping by Leitch Collieries!
It was a busy morning at Leitch Collieries. A big thanks to all the pilots and firefighters for getting the fire out quickly!
Please take care while out in the backcountry as conditions are still extremely dry. To report a fire call 310-FIRE (3473).
Great hike to Lille yesterday, beautiful weather and an excellent group. Head up to the Frank Slide Centre today and visit with staff from Alberta Parks, take a hike on the Frank Slide trail and pick up a copy of our new comic book, 'Shoot-Out at the Bellevue Cafe' (or a whole set of the comic books) at a special rate.

Happy Canada Day!!!
The Frank Slide Interpretive Centre will now be open from 9:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. until Labour Day.
World Class !!! Love this place & would recommend that anyone traveling through the slide stop here & experience this facility ...
Well worth the time & money to visit the interpretive centre. The views alone are priceless! The view from the highway is good but nothing compared to the Interpretive Centre So much info inside too! Glad we decided to stop & check it out.
We went to Frank Slide Trail more times. Not important the weather ( summer, fall or winter) that is a fantastic walk. We love that silence and " fill the history" .
We took my daughters here as a day trip we didn't expect to stay long but we ended up staying for 4 hours. It really captured the interest of my six year old. We did the 1.5 k hike which they loved too. They also took so much time explaining things to my girls it was great. Wonderful experience will be going again.
We go at least every few years when we have visitors & enjoy it every time! This time, we had family who had been evacuated from Ft McMurray & they were let in free. Class act.
This is a great place to learn about the history and humanity behind the Frank Slide, and the Hillcrest Mine Disaster, and about coal-mining in the Crowsnest overall. The slide shows presented in the theatre are very good and worth the time. I would recommend this interpretive centre to anyone interested in more than just seeing the Frank Slide.
My kids and I try and go every year. Always have an awesome time!
Loved it! Never been before or even heard of it. I love history and learning about it. Great family place to go
Just spent the night there with our local Beaver Scouts and it was amazing. Staff was incredible and great with the kids. Place was clean and coffee was great. My 6 year old came home with all sorts of information to tell his sister and dad. As terrible as the tragedy was I feel the children where taught about it in a informative and memorable way with out frightening them.
It was amazing the people working there are so very nice. The movies are super educational and teach you so much about the area, the slide, the heroes and all the history. Amazing learning experience and a beautiful place.
Impressive! So touching when my grand girl said it made her cry. This is a must see!
I was taken back in time as I wandered through the exhib. Chills ran down my spine as we watched the excellent movie that was reinacted. I can’t begin to imagine the horror that this little community endured. The Interperive Center was epic and put together very well. I give it an A+.
Had only driven through years ago, so took a weekend trip to explore The Pass.
Was very impressed with the Interpretive Center and it's information and displays on not only the Frank Slide, but the Bellevue and Hillcrest mine disasters as well.
Amazing experience, so amazing we almost missed our flight home - would have been worth it though. Wish we had more time to explore it more in depth but we'll be back!
Absolutely amazing program, staff, and facility. This is the 2nd time we have taken our Cubs, and they loved every minute of it
A moving experience. Thinking how terrifying it must had been for those buried alive. A must see to realize the force of nature!
A huge thank you to the staff for all their knowledge and information, and in the assistance with finding our lost dog benson. A great big thank you as well to the family that gave him plenty of water and pets while we made our way back to him.
Its is very good and informative but I wish there was somewhere to see it from up higher to see the actual size of the slide.
If you are in or near the area, stop in to get some current Canadian history that seems to fly under the radar. Check the hours though. I recall it closing early. The area is a must see as well.
