“It’s never too late” 40x60” $2800 will be at my art show this Friday...https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sto ries-at-the-mac-an-artshow-… I met a man while live painting & we became friends. He came to my studio to pick out a painting because he really felt my art spoke to him in a way he hadn’t experienced with art before. During our visit he kept saying, “You don’t understand. This is totally not me at all to come & look at art & open up to a complete stranger & be so moved by a...rtwork.” He shared his personal story with me & we shared a beautiful moment of vulnerability together. Then he said this... “Giselle, I would like you to paint me ‘never too late.” Me: “I’m sorry, what?” Him: “I want you to paint me whatever scene that comes to you with the theme of ‘never too late.’” A few months went by & I kept walking by his canvas. Still blank...with expectation. Still blank...waiting for me. Waiting for something but I didn’t know how to approach it. One day, I just started a painting & about 15 minutes into painting it the phrase dropped into my spirit ‘never too late’ along with this: “it’s never too late to love. It’s never too late to start. It’s never too late to act. It’s never too late to enjoy. It’s never too late to accept. It’s never too late to forgive.” When he finally saw her in person he said he had a truly physical reaction to the painting that he could not explain other than a feeling of awe. I love how art speaks to everyone in a unique & special way. That man inspired me to trust the process & allow it to come without forcing anything to happen. To trust that each painting I make has been made for someone special. . . . . . #giselledenis #itsnevertoolate #forest #natureart #decor #design #interiors #interiordesign #canadianartist #albertaartist

“Love will save the world” 40x72” Her story... “Growing up, I didn't really have any interest in military history. My Grandfather served in the Royal Air Force, but we never talked about that when he was alive. My dad was always a history buff, but I didn't get it. That changed in 2003.
I was working for Global Edmonton & they sent me to cover the opening of the Juno Beach Centre in Normandy France. It was life changing for me. ... I remember walking up to the Canadian War Cemetery at Beny-sur-Mer, just down the road from Juno Beach....2,044 Canadian soldiers are buried there. I was looking at the names & ages of the fallen & realized they had given their lives so I could do anything I wanted to with my life. As I whispered " thank you" I made a promise to live my life to the fullest. To not hold back, to give back.
This is what I learned from this site called, “Ardenne Abbey”: "On June 7th, 1944, the German army occupied the Abbey in order to keep watch on the Canadian troops & prepare a counter-attack. This early Gothic church, encircled by walls & surrounded by fields served as an ideal place from which to plan a counter-offensive. This very same day, the Germans took Canadian soldiers prisoner. They were escorted to the abbey where 18 of them were executed. This attack was in direct contempt of the Geneva Convention & prisoners’ rights & therefore constituted a war crime. As many as 156 Canadian prisoners of war are believed to have been executed by the 12th SS Panzer Division (the Hitler Youth) in the days & weeks following the D-Day landings. The abbey was taken back from the Germans on 8 July, 1944. Today, a memorial in the Abbey's garden commemorates this tragic event. On the site of the massacre, there is now a garden. Some may believe it's morbid, sad, bad vibes. To me, it's a place to remember. To pay tribute. To learn more about our history.
We will never have a future if we don't remember the past. I choose to remember. To pay tribute…& with deep hope that "love will save the world”. -written by J'lyn Nye ❤️🌸 #remembranceday #lestweforget #november11

“Poppy love” 24x18” sold to this lovely lady watching me paint it at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald The server came over to tell me her customer would like to buy me a drink & also would like to talk about my painting. I walked over to thank her for the drink & I recognized her from a few weeks ago when she stopped to talk to me about my art. She told me how she just felt a connection to this piece as she has military background. “How can i take this one home with me?” she said.... I just love how sometimes a connection cannot be explained other than a draw towards it. It brings me great joy to make new friends & then be able to see them more than once at the hotel. Building a community of people who genuinely believe in & enjoy my work is so rewarding❤️🎨 She lives out of town & is coming back to Edmonton next week to attend my show. I think that is pretty cool too ⭐️🙌 https://www.eventbrite.com/e/stories-at-t he-mac-an-artshow-…

Neil & I are buried in my show planning these days, but I wanted to share this lovely pic taken by the very talented curtiscomeauphotography 🙌 The moment we met I instantly felt like we would be friends. I felt his passion for his work & he was so easy to talk to & be in front of his camera. When people make you feel comfortable, to me, that is a sign they are really great at what they do. High fives my friend! “Call it magic” 40x72” $3360 This painting will be at my art show on Nov.16th! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/stories-at-t he-mac-an-artshow-… On more than one occasion someone has told me that when they watch me paint, it is like watching magic. To hear such lovely words about your creations is a very powerful thing. When you believe what you are doing is affecting people, you pay more attention to each brush stroke, the frame of mind you are painting in & each thought you’re h...aving while creating. I want to be sensitive and tune into what’s going on around me while I’m painting. Magic happens when you wait for it. This piece was painted live at the Vignettes Design Series grand opening. The room was buzzing full of people, with loud music & high energy. It is a bit of a high to paint at a venue like this. Sometimes the painting flies so fast out of me like a wild animal & there's no stopping it. . . . . #giselledenis #vignettesyeg #yeg #yegarts #yegart #canadianartist #albertaartist #forest #forestart #design #decor #interiors #interiordesign #magic http://www.giselledenis.com/Portfol…/Pa intings/Call-it-magic

“The Healer” in her new #home. I painted this one in Dubai during my residency at Raffles Dubai Within one week of posting it on my website, a collector friend of mine said, “I must have this one! It speaks to me!” I was at a dinner party & one of the men at the table was talking about how he had just gone biking through the sand dunes, & had an accident & broke his ankle just a few days before. He didn’t have any bandages on, but he was he limping. I said, “Have you been to ...the doctor? Maybe you should get that checked out.” He said, “No...I’m a healer.” His words made me think of how powerful our words actually are. What would happen if we really believed the power our bodies have to naturally heal themselves? Healing not only our physical selves, but our mental & emotional selves as well. . . . . . #giselledenis #artheals #decor #floralart #flowers #design #interiordesign #decorate #decorating #yeg #yegarts #yegart

I’ve been collaborating with my Dad to create metal flower sculptures. This rose is now complete & it measures 4.5 feet across for $4800. It was only 8 weeks ago my Dad had an 18 hour surgery to remove cancer from his throat & they removed over 300 lymph nodes from his neck. Seeing him go through that was one of the hardest things in my life. My Mom sat by his bedside for 20 days in a row. He hadn’t seen the light of day for 20 days either. Struggling to breathe & swallow eve...ry minute of every day. His friend came to see him one day in the hospital while my Mom & I were there. He brought his guitar & gently played song after song. I swear to you, healing flowed from that guitar & from his voice. My mom said, “Your Dad would really love it if you sang too.” “I’m trying Mom. I’m trying.” All I could do was cry & listen as this man poured out his love in the form of song. We didn’t know what the future was going to hold at that point, so all we could do was trust my Dad was going to be ok. A lady came over to me while I waited in the waiting room & saw me crying. She put her hand on my shoulder & said, “I know it’s hard. Everything’s going to be ok.” Now, 8 weeks later, we’ve got the report that my Dad is ok. There is no need for radiation & that he is clear from cancer. The first thing my Dad wrote down to me on his notepad the day after they cut him open he wrote, “I’d rather be welding.” Love you Dad. You are tough as nails. #fuckcancer #sorrymom . . . . . #giselledenis #overcomer #metalsculpture #rosesculpture #canadianartist #albertaartist #yeg #yegarts #yegart @ Edmonton, Alberta

I was commissioned on the spot to paint this one. A lovely man said to me, “Man! I don’t know if I should buy something at your show or get something from you now?!” I said, “Well that’s totally up to you!” A few minutes later he came over to talk again. “Ok! I know what I want you to paint for me! Something with water! Now I’m going to go over there and watch you paint it!” I have gotten used to the fact that people ask me to do this fairly often. I secretly love it when peo...ple don’t give me that many instructions. To have the freedom to paint what I feel in the moment & what is happening around me is totally up my alley. For the next hour or so, I thoroughly enjoyed making his painting while he watched it come to life before his eyes. I could hear him say in the background, “Oooh! I love that!” And “look at all the colours and the texture!” It’s like I had my own little cheering squad as I created & it was really a beautiful moment. 💙🎨⭐️ . . . . . #giselledenis #ocean #water #sailboat #canadianartist #albertaartist #yeg #yegarts #yegart #decor #interiordesign #interiors @ Fairmont Hotel Macdonald
