We are pleased to announce the 2019 St Athanasius Seminar, June 3-7.
Our topic this year is Reading the Paschal Gospel of St John. Together, we will study John’s gospel, how it was understood in the earliest church, and what insights are brought to it by contemporary scholarship. In particular, we will focus on the Incarnation: what John says about it, how it relates to Christ’s Pascha or passion, how it is conceived of as revelation, and how we speak of it.
Once again this y...ear, our lecturer will be V. Rev. Dr John Behr, Professor of Patristics at St Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary. Fr John is a leading scholar of early Christian theology and has written many books, including The Way to Nicaea, The Mystery of Christ, Becoming Human, and most recently, John the Theologian & his Paschal Gospel (forthcoming). As last year’s participants can attest, Fr John is a deeply knowledgeable, challenging, and enjoyable speaker.
New this year, we are partnering with Ambrose Seminary to give you the option of taking the seminar as a for-credit course. Ambrose Seminary has transfer credit agreements with many other seminaries, including St Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, through the Association of Theological Schools (ATS).
