About Homespace Society

HomeSpace is on a mission to increase the number of affordable and specialized housing units in Calgary.

Homespace Society Description

In 2003, HomeSpace Society (formerly Calgary Community Land Trust Society) was created to fill a need in our community. That need is to grow capacity in the non-market housing sector to access affordable housing and significantly advance community–based planning and delivery of housing options, specifically to vulnerable populations.

HomeSpace exists to support social agencies’ access to safe, appropriate and affordable housing for vulnerable populations in our city. We own a portfolio of over 400 units of housing in 20 communities throughout Calgary and we work with agencies who provide supports to vulnerable Calgarians in need of housing. HomeSpace is also a property developer, building specialized permanent housing in order to continually add to the affordable housing stock in our city. We own, operate, develop and provide housing for our community.

DIG what we are all about

Dignity: We respect every person’s right to be treated with dignity and have access to a safe, appropriate and affordable home, while acting with integrity to maintain trust from our partners and community.

Innovation: We find new and better ways of providing housing – and thereby, we fearlessly challenge the status quo.

Growth: We collaborate to grow housing options for the community

HomeSpace is housing our community.

An affordable housing provider in Calgary, we support legislating the right to housing as part of Canada's human rights commitments and National Housing Strategy. Great work bringing this conversation to the forefront by all of the organizations involved. http://caeh.ca/right-to-housing/

Calgary’s population grew by 21,007 people over the past year. Yet our non-market housing sits at 3.6%, well below the national average of 6%. Please support affordable housing in our community so we can all lead our best lives!

Contact our friends and partners on the DOAP Team if you see someone requiring assistance, especially during the heat wave.

Often, the use of substances is a fact and the main focus should be placed on reducing harm while use continues. You can save a friend who uses from an overdose with free naloxone kits, via Alberta Health Services.

The highlight for this being accessing services and exploring alternatives BEFORE homelessness hits. That's always the goal! Great collaborative initiative to help Calgarians involving some of our agency partners: https://www.cbc.ca/…/calgary-homelessne ss-family-hub-1.4757…

Looking forward to Monday! It's so important and much more efficient to take a strategic, systems wide view on mental health, addictions and crime prevention. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUhKpOqXi jc&feature=youtu.be

Happy Monday! It’s going to be a hot one today - please keep an eye out for vulnerable Calgarians who may not be as prepared for the heat! Donations of water are always appreciated - check in with our community partner agencies to see what their needs may be: https://bit.ly/2gNiB3m #Community
