About Hoodoo Banff

Where the locals hang!

Hoodoo Banff Description

BANFF, ALTA. – Located right beside Eddie Burger + Bar, downstairs at 137 Banff Ave. , is the HooDoo Lounge, a funky mountain lounge with a dance floor that showcases live DJs four nights a week. If you're looking for a place to party with the real locals in Banff during your stay, you'll eventually end up at the HooDoo.

Although the HooDoo is known as the locals' night club in Banff, it's a favourite among visitors, too. After all, who better to lead the way than the people who live and breathe this town every day.

Kick back, grab a cocktail, and chill
With its pool tables, comfortable seating, big music system, and loads of TVs, the HooDoo is a great spot to kick back with a beer or a cocktail and chill out before getting out for first tracks the next morning.

Something for everyone
Featuring hip hop, pop, alternative, and rock tracks, the HooDoo accommodates pretty much everybody. No group is too large, and it's always available for parties of any size. The interior is Rocky Mountain chic, with its rock and wood decor and leather furnishings.

Tuesday and Thursday nights especially go off with the local wildlife at the hooDoo Lounge and Nightclub.

After 14 years in Banff, we have decided it's time for something new at the Hoodoo location. Concept and design details are being finalized, with renovations to begin shortly. Details on what's coming will be announced in the fall. It has been a great run, and we are very, very thankful for everyone who came by to dance, party, celebrate and carouse with us! A special thank-you to all the employees, talented DJ's, bands, and to everyone else who made the Hoodoo the Hoodoo.

This place and staff are always legendary.

I've never seen a doorman or other staff be assholes to the patrons, however I have seen many patrons be assholes to the doormen and staff. 2 sides to every story.

Keep that jager pouring!

User

The place to go and the place I feel most welcome. I love the staff and the people in general, always warmly welcomed at the door then also by the staff inside. Good vibes, good people, good times!

User

So I'm not even 100% sure what happened last night. I will admit that I was not there.

I am not going to try and write a glowing review about a place that I know does not have homophobic tendencies in the least. That seems redundant.

What I will say is this:

I work at another establishment in Banff, it is not a nightclub, however I deal with ALOT of drunk people on a regular basis. I have been called "bitch" and "slut" when I am forced to cut them off and have been told that I'm nothing but a waitress, and that basically I am their maid and it's my job so I have to deal with it. So where is MY outlet to publicly review and destroy these people? I have none... but I would never assume that the actions of these individuals then categorizes all of their friends as assholes... if anything 99% of the time their friends are ashamed and overtip me and apologize profusely.

How is that situation ANY different than the one that's happened here? Oh because it's an paid employee that's done the discriminatory thing? If what has been accused of that employee is true they will get fired... I have faith in that. In the mean time this club is simply ashamed that this has happened at all.. CLEARLY. So why try and destroy a business? That is so short sighted...

User

Personally I have never had a bad time at hoodoo's. It's a great place. I love talking to people and I always talk to staff at places, because that's how I determine if I'll go back. They've always been kind and welcoming and I would do and have recommended it to friends.

That being said, MAYBE the doorman did something awful. But until the investigation is over no one can be sure. Slandering the entire business for the actions of one staff member is insane. If someone in your family committed a heinous crime would it be okay for everyone to assume you were and would do the same? Absolutely not, it's childish and illogical.

If this kind of treatment was common practice at Hoodoo, wouldn't we have heard about it by now in all the years it's been successfully operated? Or are we to believe that it has been a safe haven for homophobia in Banff and that this incident is going to blow the whole thing wide open? Likely not.

If it turns out the doorman did this, you can't judge Hoodoo as a business until you find out how they go about dealing with the situation. As of right now they appear to be handling it professionally and so why would I rate them any other way?

User

Love it!!! Place isn't crowded when we went there which is a big point especially when im taking pictures. The bench overlooking the bow river is my favorite spot. I can spend the whole day sitting, listening to my music. I love Mother Nature

User

I've seen people let in in snowboard boots, borat one-piece g-strings, pizza outfits, oompa loompas and as a god dam taco. No one cares who or what you are in hoodoo and that's what makes it such a cool place. I'm sometimes confused as to whether they hire workers or models at that place but by god whatever you are doing, keep doing it

User

I was the resident DJ here in 2010/2011 -some of the best times! Staff is on point, the venue is on point -what more can you ask for! DJ Trix

User

I used to work as a glassy at the Hoodoo and can honestly say it was one of the best times of my life. The music is great, the staff are great, the atmosphere is great.

In the year that I worked there, and the year and half I was in Banff, I never saw anyone mistreated, and never saw anyone asked to leave for any other reason than that they were misbehaving.

Before working there, I also used to be the event manager at a local hostel, which, let's be serious, is a glorified term for pub crawl organiser. My groups were made up from people of all walks of life, and I never had a single incident where a member of my group didn't feel comfortable.

Good times, would recommend.

User

I mean I cant remember the last time my drunk queer ass was at HooDoo but I'm told I was having a great time.

As for the recent stuff, heres the thing. Growing up in Banff, I know lots of people who work or have worked at HooDoo at some point. The folks on the crew there are solid, curtious and good hearted people who would never tolerate bigotry or discrimination in their ranks. Beleive it or not, we actually have an LGBTQ community here, and local buisnesses including this one have generously and enthusiastically given us nothing shy of unwavering support. Because I wasn't physically there and dont know the details of the situation I obviously cant speak to what did or did not happen, but I have every confidence that an incident like this is not something that the owners or management would take lightly, and I can absolutely tell you that being a bigoted asshole will not make you any friends among any locals.

But an immediate jump to screw with the reputation of an establishment and manufacture outrage based on a vague as hell facebook status of a friend of a friend or wtf ever despite your never having been to the place before anyone thought to maybe let management/ownership look into the incident and respond is, regardless of what actually went down here, a really good way to make yourself look like a damn idiot. If you're gonna fight a battle try getting some tact.

User

I honestly think it's ridiculous how anyone could believe that hoodoo and it's staff are homophobic in the slightest when I see mass majority of the LGBT community in there. Unless you've been in there too expierence it I wouldn't base your opinion on reviews made up on fake looking accounts probably created by young adults who have nothing better to do then falsely accuse and try and ruin a good establishment over the internet because they didn't get their way. Hoodoo is the bomb dot com!

User

I have never had a problem at Hoodoo Banff and I've seen all kinds of people exhibiting all kind of behaviour there. Abusive, arrogant behaviour is not generally tolerated, to work security at a late night club would require incredible tolerance and tact night after night. It sure sounds like there are two sides to this story that has been blown out of proportion without all the facts.

User

I had many close gay friends the 2 years I lived in Banff and we went to Hoodoos at least once a week with no issues. They don't care who you are or how you look- they just care that you're not blacking out on your way in!

User

I am truly sorry for what this establishment is going through right now. I was out in full drag Friday night. I had actually stopped by as this "incident" happened, not knowing what was going on. All I can say is this town is so very accepting. Clearly being out in full drag should show that. Much love to everyone here. You have welcomed me with open arms. I can honestly say that in my heart, this is an "alternative fact". (trying to lighten the mood(US politics)) Keep doing you HooDoo. xoxo Chichi

User

Hoodoos is great, never had a problem with staff before, and I seriously doubt they're refusing people entry or kicking them out based on sexual orientation.

Your guys have always been good to me when they kicked me out for being too drunk. I stand with hoodoos!

User

Hey, I ended up getting a little "white girl" there last night (That means I got drunk. I did not abduct a little white girl) anyways, now I'm missing my wallet, my phone, your phone, my left sock (Could be the right one, I can never tell them apart), a small, dyed green Cornish hen, both eyebrows and Elvis. If Anyone knows where anything is could you post it on the buy and sell page?! Thanks Bae. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

User

Haven't lived in Banff for years and I still send friends there when visiting Banff- all of which have nothing but positive experiences while there. I always looked forward to going to Banff to party at HooDoo and have had some of the best nights there

User

Getting slandered for false accusations and having people rate them who have never been is ridiculous. Hoodoo staff have been nothing but professional and have a extremely difficult job of dealing with customers at all times of the night. If you've worked in the bar or service industry you would know how hard it is dealing with people. They fully support LGBT community and to get slandered from a random few who weren't there or have ever have been is ridiculous. Good on the hoodoo for being classy about it and going as far as investigating the matter. A+++

User

Awesome place! Awesome staff! Dont let the negitives cloud your judgment. Because ONE INDIVIDUAL staff member decided to be a complete douch bag shouldn't dictate your choice to judge any business in a negitive way unless that business has been consistently negitive towards the thing you are judging it for.

User

1st went about 4 years ago when I 1st arrived in town. A group of us went with a mate who happened to be very openly gay along with a couple of his mates which wouldn't surprise me if some were gay too.

4 years on and I still see him down there and never seen any hostility towards him or any part of the LGBTQ community

There are many who would like you to believe the staff and the business don't support this community but if you look closely, locals love this place and the negative reviews are from people who have never stepped foot in this place. Rather than buy into this I suggest come check it out for yourself, you will have a great safe time.

User

I did not abduct a little white girl) anyways, now I'm missing my wallet, my phone, your phone, my left sock (Could be the right one, I can never tell them apart), a small, dyed green Cornish hen, both eyebrows and Elvis. If Anyone knows where anything is could you post it on the buy and sell page?! Thanks Bae. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Haven't lived in Banff for years and I still send friends there when visiting Banff- all of which have nothing but positive experiences while there. I always looked forward to going to Banff to party at HooDoo and have had some of the best nights there

DJ Trix
