Immigrant And Refugee Health Interest Group

About Immigrant And Refugee Health Interest Group

As a team we are working on assessing the barriers of Canadian Immigrants to access healthcare and develop ways to mitigate the barriers.

Immigrant And Refugee Health Interest Group Description

Canada consistently receives more than 239, 000 immigrants per year. The migrants usually arrive with similar or better self-reported health than the general Canadian population. However, cultural and linguistic differences combined with lack of evidence-based guidelines create barriers towards immigrants’ access to healthcare system and navigate through it, which often leads to serious health problems for them. The core objectives of our research group is to synthesize and disseminate the existing knowledge, and collaborate with immigrant community and appropriate stakeholders to develop effective ways to mitigate the barriers.
