About Indigenous Arts At The Banff Centre

Indigenous Arts programming at The Banff Centre enhances opportunities for Indigenous artists.

Indigenous Arts At The Banff Centre Description

Indigenous Arts is a department within The Banff Centre. The Banff Centre is the largest arts and creativity incubator on the planet. Our mission is inspiring creativity. Over 8, 000 artists, leaders, and researchers from across Canada and around the world participate in programs at The Banff Centre every year.

Since its inception in 1993, the role of Indigenous Arts programming at The Banff Centre has been to enhance opportunities for Indigenous artists - writers, musicians, dancers and choreographers, visual and new media artists, and others - to research, conceive, and produce Indigenous work with cultural integrity and artistic merit.

Artistic expression is fundamental to the cultural expression of Indigenous peoples, and we are committed to making meaningful and dynamic contributions to the growth and excellence of emerging and established artists. Our programming includes performances, concerts, storytelling, residencies, presentations, family programming, summits, workshops, publications and exhibitions. Our goal is ton contribute to the development of strong and vibrant Indigenous arts communities in Canada and around the world.

Situated on Buffalo Mountain in the Canadian Rocky Mountains - the sacred and traditional territory of Treaty 7 First Nations and home to to the Blackfoot (Kainai, Piikani and Siksika), and Stoney Nakoda (Bearspaw, Chiniki, Wesley) and Tsuu T'ina nations - The Banff Centre offers an inspiring setting for Indigenous artists from across Canada and around the world from all artistic disciplines to realize their creative capacities and transform their careers.
