Innovative Communities Connecting & Networking Description

iCCAN has had extensive experience in managing, implementing and administering videoconferencing training and coordination of delivery.

• Strengthening relations with iCCAN sites – The iCCAN network is only as strong as its communities. iCCAN continues to strengthen relations with the organizations that own and operate iCCAN sites. Their voices are vital for informing the future evolution, development and use of the iCCAN network.

• Building Capacity and empowering communities with training and know-how – Community support services, infrastructure and resources are instrumental in building community capacity. iCCAN plays a strong role in helping communities learn how to effectively leverage their videoconferencing assets – from exploring local opportunities, to managing logistics, to crafting plans for financial and technical sustainability. Offering formalized training, sharing best practices, and providing tools and tactics are all part of this mix.

• Building knowledge and a niche – As a technology that’s still relatively new, videoconferencing comes with a learning curve. Translating courses, programs and services to the videoconferencing context is one part technical and many parts art – what works well, what makes for effective, and what we’re still learning as we go.

• Providing the architecture to leverage the network – It’s not just about the applications and opportunities. It’s also about the technical nuts and bolts that make the whole iCCAN network possible, and the business architecture that connects content providers with users. To effectively bring a vast array of opportunities to Albertans, iCCAN understands, the steps that will take an opportunity from concept to broadcast. This includes videoconference management services (such as promotion, facility booking and registration), videoconference bridge use, and the roles and remuneration of iCCAN member sites in the overall process.

• Getting the word out –This means helping iCCAN member organizations raise awareness in their communities about the availability and potential of the iCCAN network and continuing to encourage local cultures of use, helping them realize the possibilities for service delivery, capacity-building, marketing and community enhancement. And it means reaching out to other videoconferencing networks and forums, to explore partnerships and share perspectives.
