This week's edition of the ILPA Landscape and Wildlife Photography Weekly is published. Here's a link to the summary and the newsletter. Great stories this week including the 20 year story behind the lead photograph.
I'm going to be interviewed today by CBC radio on wildlife photography in the parks. Listen in on "Alberta at Noon" between 12-12:30pm
And, yes,... that is a wild black bear that those adults and children are crowding.
I'm going to be interviewed by Calgary CBC Radio about our, photographers, views on wildlife photography in the National Parks during their lunchtime show between 12:00pm-12:30pm.
The piece that they're doing was inspired by an incident where "photographers" with ipads and phones walked towards a bear and two cubs to within ~20m to photograph them. I was driving down the icefields parkway when this happened and I was in my car about 75-100m away as this unfolded.
A legend of Canadian Mountain Photography passed away peacefully yesterday at home at the age of 83. George was one of the living photographic legends of the Canadian Rockies.
Here's a beautiful tribute to George written by fellow friend and Nature photographer Robert Berdan: http://www.canadiannaturephotographer.com /tribute_George_Br…

Do you feel that you're artistically stagnating as a photographer? I've felt I've been through a few creative growths spurts in my 20+ year career as a professional photographer. And, I've dealt with a few plateaus where I seemed to be doing the same old, same old.
But, so far, I've always broken through my barriers and learned a few lessons along the way about spurring on creativity when it seems elusive.
I summarize my thoughts on creative plateaus in this blog post and how I've managed them. I hope my experiences help you to break through your own plateaus too. http://www.brianmerry.ca/photographic-ris ks-stimulate-crea…/
This is an organization by outdoor photographers, for outdoor photographers. It's a beautiful thing!
It was my first professional landscape photography workshop I attended as a long-time full-time landscape photographer. My work has been published all over the world, and I was amazed at how much I didn't know... shocked really! Professional photography is changing as fast as the technology that is driving it these days. All of us have to stay on top of the game, and ILPA is on top of it! HIGHLY recommended!
