Jasper's Community Garden

Jasper Community Garden Description

Founded by the Jasper Local Food Society, the community garden was piloted at the Municipal Library in 2010. At that time there were 23 gardeners using 8"x4' raised beds with compost and soil. The garden expanded to 51 boxes in 2011 and relocated to Connaught Drive where there was more room and greater potential for a long-term location. The garden entered the second year of operation in 2012. Allotments in the community garden are available to current, paid members of the Jasper Local Food Society (membership renews each January). Each allotment is renewable in March and previous year's gardeners have rights of first refusal in the forthcoming season. JLFS members who wish an allotment are placed on a waiting list, and allocated plots chronologically. Gardeners must sign an agreement to use only organic, permaculture principles; to volunteer a minimum of 16 hrs to the upkeep of the garden; to enrich the soil; to conserve water. Unused or mis-used allotments will be reallocated (without refund). For more information, see the Jasper-Local Food-Society Facebook page and our website (www. jasperlocalfood. wordpress.com). Happy Growing! !
