I haven't figured out how to update this post separately but I did see your response to my original post (below) and I find it interesting that you are "very happy to have helped sort things out since". No you haven't!! Nobody has contacted me since I posted this.

I had 3 previous moves with Jay's about 7 to 9 years ago and they were all great moves. The movers were always very professional and experienced. So it seemed only natural that I book my recent move with them.

It was apparent right from the beginning that I had a fairly inexperienced crew. While they were very friendly they forgot to bring the wardrobe boxes I had requested, they initially couldn't find their tools to take my table apart, they told me they were finished in my master bedroom yet I found the cord that they had taken off my electric bed just sitting in the middle of the room. I put that cord (along with a few other TV cords) in a small garbage can and they put it on the truck.

When they were finished unloading on the other end they left without setting my electrical bed back up. When I went to do it myself I realized the cord wasn't there as well as the cable cords we needed for Shaw to set up our TVs the next day. I got ahold of the mover to have him check the truck (for the small garbage can) and he said the truck was being used that night by the other mover who didn't have a phone. He promised he would call me the next morning and have the truck checked as he knew we need those cords for our morning Shaw appointment.

The following morning I never heard back from him and he wasn't answering my calls. Thankfully I had the phone number of another member of the crew and she was very helpful and got ahold of her supervisor who ended up finding the cords on the truck and drove them over to us. I wish I could say that was the only issue.

Murphy's Law my most favourite piece of furniture in the entire move got a chip taken out of it as well as scratches down the side. The crew was quick to acknowledge that and I filed a claim. I assumed they would send someone out to fix it. Because it is a highly lacquered piece of furniture it isn't something that I can fix on my own. I ended up getting a cheque from Jay's that was calculated as a % of the weight of the furniture. They said I never took out the additional insurance to warrant anything more.

I never took out the insurance because I was assured that the furniture was going to be covered. What I didn't realize was that the furniture was only covered while on the truck but not while being moved into my new location. The new location had some tricky sharp corners and then an elevator ride so I just assumed the movers would know that this type finish could not sustain even a slight bump against something.

This is where my real disappointment with Jay's lies........when I received the cheque I was not happy. I placed 3 calls to the claims manager over a period of 3 weeks and never heard back. So then I sent an e-mail expressing my concerns (and cc'd it to the branch manager). That was a month ago and still no response from either of them.

Jay's was a family run company when I had my previous moves with them and I truly believe that they would have acknowledged my concerns. I guess now that it is part of a larger organization they have lost that personal touch. Sad that I am no longer a customer but just a file.

Our company was completing renovations to a customer's home. The homeowner was going to have to temporarily relocate and her household furnishings would have to be removed and stored for a period of time. This became a short notice move, the team at Jay's Moving stepped up and had a crew on site, packed the homeowner's furnishings and moved them to their storage facility.
I spoke with the homeowner, she was very pleased with the way the process was completed.
When I had contacted Jay's initially I felt comfortable that, even with the short notice, they would complete our request without a lot of follow-up.
The communication has been great, without question should this type of service be required in the future Jay's Moving will be our first call.

Be careful! They low ball the estimate to get the job then charge about seventy-five percent over the original estimate. They had to make two trips because the proper truck was not sent to do the job then charge for the extra trip plus there was damage to furniture. Never again!

Final charge did not reflect the agreed to price. Then when I asked why, I was told it reflected internal tariffs even though that's not what was written in agreement. They also charged costs to my credit card before I was shown the final tally and before goods were delivered (which was also not what agreement said). Also they are quick to send emails but won't call to discuss problems. Lots of run around.
