Kananaskis Country Public Safety Section, Alberta Parks Description

The Kananaskis Country public safety section is a professional search and rescue organization within the Ministry of Environment and Parks. Staff within this department are members of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (www. acmg. ca) and also professional members of the Canadian Avalanche association (www. avalanche. ca).

The Public Safety section works closely with Conservation Officers within the Kananaskis Region to ensure the safety of all persons using backcountry areas within Kananaskis Country.

Public Safety staff are active members of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides who have received additional training in high angle rescue, helicopter sling rescue, swiftwater rescue, avalanche response and rescue, thin ice rescue, search management, cave rescue, avalanche forecasting /bombing and wilderness first aid.

We work closely with a group of physicians known as the Canadian mountain Parks Backcountry medical Council who represent The mountain regions of Parks Canada as well as Kananaskis Country.
