Kerstin'S Chocolates Description
Although Kerstin spent her formative years in Edmonton, she never forgot the taste of the chocolates she had loved as a little kid in her hometown of Speyer, Germany—chocolates like coco-covered rice cakes that were unavailable on the Canadian prairies. Years later, while living in New York, she rediscovered her love of cooking--and making chocolate in particular. “I was taking a cooking course, and I remembered the chocolate I had as a child and wanted to make it available to other people, so I started making chocolates for a New York farmers’ market. ” Next came chocolate-making classes in New York and Washington, as well as an apprenticeship with a Manhattan chocolatier, and, after moving back to Edmonton with her young family, she opened her own shop in 2003.
In the past eight years, Kerstin’s Chocolates has made a name for itself importing fine chocolates from around the world and for selling Kerstin’s own line of chocolate bars—Chocophilia. Other big-sellers include truffles, meltaways, and European-style sipping chocolate. “Basically it’s like drinking a melted chocolate bar, ” she says of the drink mixes. And recently, she’s added baked goods, such as brownies and cookies, to her roster of chocolate offerings.

Mother's Day is Sunday, May 12 and we'll be at the City Hall Farmer's Market on Saturday (May 11th), with yummy treats for Mom (and you). In addition to stocking all of the Chocophilia Bars, the drinking chocolate and the caviar, we will have meltaways, and ''nearly naked' chocolate covered almonds (roasted organic almonds, very lightly coated in 64% chocolate and rolled in cocoa powder). These strike a perfect balance between the sweetness of chocolate and the bitterness of the cacao and are great as a treat or a present for Mom. For serious almond & chocolate lovers only [$8.75 for 125 grams].
May 11th is also the last indoor market of the season so come on down and stock up before the weather heats up!
May is going to be your last chance to buy Chocophilia bars before we close up shop for the summer. Due to the summer heat, which is known to melt bars, we won’t be continuing at the downtown farmers market when they move outside later this month. Luckily we will be selling our Chocophilia products at several locations around town this month so you can stock up when and where it’s convenient for you.
