The Kids with Cancer Society, a registered not for profit Edmonton based charity (88640 1397 RR0001), was established in 1979 to provide peer support to children with cancer and their families. The organization was built through the efforts of volunteer parents and members of the community and today is considered a lifeline to those affected by the disease. The Society supports children between the ages of 0 – 17 who reside in the Northern Alberta /NWT region.

Childhood cancer is the number one killer disease in children, but their numbers constitute a relatively small number of the total cancer patient population. This has led to a situation whereby their specialized needs are too often ignored. For this reason, and the growing need to provide items not funded through other sources, the goals of the Kids with Cancer Society expanded to include and address the issues that will ensure that our children and their families have fair and equal representation in all aspects of cancer care, treatment, survivorship and research.

We are extremely fortunate that the business community has provided ongoing support to our organization, which has enabled us to reach many of our objectives. The Society receives its funding primarily through third party fundraising activities, special events, and unsolicited donations. Thanks to this support, our organization has made remarkable progress in the provision of programs and services for our children from the time of diagnosis, throughout treatment, survivorship and beyond. We do not participate in telemarketing campaigns or use professional fundraising companies.
