Kingmik Dog Sled Tours

About Kingmik Dog Sled Tours

In 1982, after 8 years of experiencing the valleys and high passes of the Canadian Rockies with his dog team, a local boy by the name of Doug Hannah, decided he would like to share the magic of his world with others.

Kingmik Dog Sled Tours Description

It did not take long to convince Parks Canada that this would be a wonderful activity to offer visitors. As there is no other dog sledding in the area, it was an oddity indeed to see a dog team whisking people off the door step of Chateau Lake Louise. But the allure caught on quickly and today dogsledding is one of the most popular activities in the park.

Kingmik still remains the intimate and personable feel of the early days. We consider ourselves small but mighty, with just 50 amazing dogs, and 5 full time professional dog mushers.
We are the only dogsled company operating in Banff National Park, giving us exclusive rights to the trail systems.
Every sled is guided, which amounts to a guest to guide ratio of 2: 1, and we run no more than 5 sleds per tour time. We feel that this enables guests to best experience the silent grace and beauty of dog mushing, amidst one of the most beautiful landscapes of the world.

Craig and 8 of the Kingmik dogs headed out to Saskatchewan this week to the Canadian Challenge, 8 dog race, 178miles. They finished 3rd, it was tough trail conditions and the dogs all did awesome. Way to go Bangers, English, Dan, Hamish, Dr. Seuss, Horton, Lacey, Crank and Craig! Here’s a few photos from before, during and the end of the race.

" My sister just drives me nuts. She thinks she's so perfect. I have the fluffier tail by far. She's always sucking up. Thinks she's real smart she does. Says she pulls harder than me. Well I don't think so. Just look at her posing" Sneetches and McBean

LILY. One heck of a girl . 11 years young and still leading the charge. She's a very competitive lady and works hard at catching and passing the team in front of her. Once she's finished a day on the trail she retires to the couch for the night.

This little smarty pants is going to be up for ADOPTION at the beginning of April. Mica is a 45 lb spayed female who sure isn't short on "tude" She's always at the center of the chaos and one might think she has a deficit of attention. We always make the comparison that a kennel of dogs is like a highschool of kids. Well.. Mica is the captain of grass hockey team and you better watch out for your shins. She's the girl getting the class in a riot but the first back at her desk when the teacher returns. And yes.. she's the one up the latest with the very best party tricks. She's a 2014 baby so she's going to be around for a very long time. She'll need a super active home and a dog savvy human. If you're interested in having a dedicated running/biking/skiing partner, give us a shout.

JIM HAS BEEN ADOPTED :)
Big Jim is still looking for a home! I can't believe there hasn't been hundreds of wise people GALLOPING over the mountaintops to snap up this prize of a fella. Jim is already a pet. He has all his badges. Gold badge in "Best Couch Lounger" Gold badge in " Awesome Off Leash with Excellent Call Back" Gold Badge in "Fabulous Back Seat Driver" and in "I Gotta Go Outside for a Poo" And Platinum Badge with special recognition in " All Around Gentleman. Jim has not received a Badge for " I Don't Eat Cats" as we do not have cats to test him on.... but we suspect he would be too much of a Woos to try it.
