The health and well-being of the students and summer campers who visit Leighton Art Centre is of first importance to us. Our staff participated this week in a learning session on recognizing, responding to and reporting suspected child abuse.
Thank you to Kim Campbell and Carrie Sanders of the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre for coming out to share valuable information on child and youth development, well-being and harm prevention with us!

Hot off the presses! We love being able to give these talented young artists a real gallery experience and expose their works to a wider audience. Thank you, Okotoks Western Wheel for helping us spread the word about this annual exhibition.
Youth Works 2018 continues through January 5th; we are closed for the holidays December 23rd through January 1st. Come see the works of these emerging artists December 20-22 or January 2nd-5th!

On December 18th, Leighton Art Centre staff and board members gathered at Swinton's Art Supply, Instruction & Framing to celebrate the holiday season, art-style!
Most of us in the group are not artists ("we just work here") so kudos and huge thanks to Doug Swinton Art and Sue Contini for coaching us to achieve such terrific results!
What a fantastic place... Swinton's Art Supply is to creative folks what a candy shop is to a kindergartner. 🎨

Books make wonderful gifts. A children's book featuring original writing and artwork by a local artist could be the BEST gift for a child you love this holiday season!
"Adventures of Wilde: A Sense of Wonder" by Michelle Austen Fine Art is available in both soft cover ($14.95) and hard cover ($24.95) from our Gallery Shop.
Winter hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 10AM - 4PM. Holiday break: LAC will be closed December 23rd through January 1st.

"The holiday season is a wonderful opportunity to make a bigger difference by contributing to a cause in need. This year, DIALOG is uniting for the arts."
Thank you DIALOG, from all of us here at Leighton Art Centre, and also from the community of artists, art- and nature-afficianados and students who will benefit from your gift during their experiences at LAC!

"He's Not That Bad"... or is he?? Either way you can't miss him... he's watching over our Main Gallery from A.C. Leighton's old easel, as part of Youth Works 2018!

LAC Communications Coordinator Amanda MacKay was at Tourism Calgary's Town Hall this morning and got to check out the new Central Calgary Public Library - amazing place.
Tourism Calgary has great things planned for 2019 and we're excited to be a part of them!

Calgary has gone from being one of the Canada's lowest in per capita arts funding to closing the gap on the leaders... an excellent investment, in our opinion!

Who doesn't love The Leighton Centre. Always a beautiful drive out and visual loveliness once you get there.

User

My happy place.

I took the workshop "Pushing Boundaries: Diving into Colour Theory with Sharon Lynn Williams" yesterday. It was incredible! Not only was she a fantastic instructor, but the colour theory she taught us was so insightful. If only I'd taken her course before I bought my many acrylic and watercolour colours ....

Thank you so much, Sharon, for sharing your knowledge!
