About Livestock Water Recycling

We help producers with their manure so they can spend more time focused on milk and animal production and less time worrying about manure!

Livestock Water Recycling Description

Livestock Water Recycling, Inc. (LWR) is a privately owned Canadian company based in Calgary, Alberta. Our story is a combination of Canadian innovation and entrepreneurialism with a passion for the environment. For over 15 years we ran a successful business as a designer and manufacturer of systems for the treatment of hydrocarbon contaminated groundwater.

With experience in wastewater remediation, and a desire to continue to grow, we knew we wanted to do all we could to clean the world’s water. We looked for other opportunities in different industries to expand our passion and focus on the treatment of the world’s water. In 2003, following a speech by Al Gore, we discovered the dairy and hog livestock industry and learned they were drastically underserviced in the area of water treatment technology. According to the UN Water Development Report, agriculture accounts for 70% of global freshwater withdrawals. We knew that with our previous knowledge and experience in contaminated water treatment that we could have a big impact on the world by coming up with a solution for livestock farmers.

Livestock manure is traditionally stored in massive lagoons where runoff from storage and spreading activities has the potential to contaminate surrounding land, rivers, and lakes. We discovered an environmentally sustainable alternative to this practice where the water treatment system allows a farm to create a full circle – treating manure by recycling all the nutrients and providing clean water back to their crops. Our goal is to give back to the earth what we are taking from it.

We want to support farmers as they play an important role in society, working hard 365 days a year to feed the world. By 2050, farmers will need to double the world food production in order to meet the needs of 9 billion people. Innovation has lead us to develop the technology required to meet these needs while using fewer resources.
