About Manavta Project

In Sanskrit, Manavta (pronounced Maa-navta) means Humanity. In short: - We are a non-profit organization that builds sustainable sanitation facilities at rural schools. - Our toilets turn liquid waste into a high-nitrogen fertilizer and hard waste into soil conditioner for farms nearby. - We involve community leaders in all aspects of our work; by building these toilets together, community members know how to fix them. - Our education plan is critical to the success of our projects. We run hygiene and sanitation workshops, delivered by female Nepalese nurses and educators in the Nepali language. Our work started in Nepal, a country where only 45% of the population has access to a toilet, and most villages are using their limited water resources to flush human waste - turning rivers into open sewers. Our super-sustainable toilet designs (invented by our brilliant team of engineers) and innovative education strategy position us to change community practices, reclaim the environment and empower children and their families.
