Worldwide, the number of women and girls who suffer gender-based and sexual violence triples after natural disasters.
After Hurricane Matthew struck Haiti in late 2016, Abigail became a victim of sexual assault. Thanks to your support, MCC began working with SOFA (Solidarity for Women in Haiti) to help women and girls who were displaced or faced sexual violence. Watch how this program has helped Abigail and over 450 other Haitian women flourish again!

Did you know: February 3-9 is International Development Week! This year's theme is Together for Gender Equality. Women are often more affected by hunger and shoulder a disproportionate responsibility for growing food for their families in many developing countries. Watch this video by young women and girls from Foodgrains Bank member organizations to the Prime Minister. Show your support by sharing this video and using the hashtags: #IDW2019 #MoreCanada and #CanadaForHer.

Your support is helping MCC and partner PDL (Partnership for Local Development), work together to build sustainable food markets in Haiti. This benefits both poor rural farmers and vulnerable urban populations, specifically children. Watch the video below to see how!

Ages 10+ welcomed! - this is an intergenerational event
Come warm up with a latte or hot chocolate and experience comforter tying! No experience required - we will teach you how! Drop by anytime on February 9th, 2019 between 10:30am - 2:30pm.
An MCC comforter consists of a top layer of fabric, a bottom layer of fabric, and a filler in the middle. In order to keep the layers from shifting during daily use and washing, all the layers need to be secured together - this is whe...re comforter tying comes in. It's a simple hand stitch that helps the blankets last as long as possible.
MCC comforters are a tradition that has been providing care around the world for over 50 years. Comforters will be sent around the world to families in areas of conflict or disaster. A handmade comforter provides not only warmth but also a tangible message of hope and comfort, showing people that their needs are not forgotten.
Last year comforters were shipped to Jordan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea), Ukraine, Iraq, Zambia, Syria, Somalia, Lebanon, Haiti, Burkina Faso, Canada, the U.S.

El Comedor de Niños, an MCC partner in Montero, Bolivia provides opportunities for women to learn marketable skills, as well as care and extra-curricular education for children. Children have access to large vegetable gardens at two different facilities in the city where they learn to grow nutritious food. The children harvest the vegetables and share the produce among themselves.
