Have to give them 5 stars and recommend it if you want to treat yourself. It was difficult to find a fault in anything other than the price. The atmosphere is very cozy but yet casual, the service was amazing, and the steaks were some of the best. I️ love how much they care about their steaks from the description of how they cook it, the selection of salts and steak knife, to the simple but eloquent presentation of the food.

Very creative cocktails and appetizers, and I loved that the beef is all sourced from Alberta ranchers, but every single steak (over 10 at our table) came out plated exactly the same, with the sides on a separate plate. The staff had to take some back to figure out which were which. The sides were quite ample, but it would be nice to select both a carb and a vegetable if in smaller portions, and be on the same plate, for both identification and table real estate. The service, however, was absolutely impeccable. A large party and our server noticed and remembered every single person and drink, never let a drink get empty, and progressively cleared the table promptly, she was amazing.

I feel a little torn to write this review. I felt like giving three stars but due to past good experiences will give 4 stars to average it out. We went there a few weeks ago and our experience was decent at best. Have been here twice in the past (several months ago) and had good experiences but this time not so much. My friend and our steaks were much much thinner and smaller than they used to be and both were overcooked. The manager came by and offered to have two new steaks done which was great but it sucks because then you are stuck eating your sides (veggies, etc) with no steak while waiting for your new steak to be done, then when your steak comes all your sides are gone. I understand it happens but it really takes away from the experience. Being a steak house I would expect the steaks not to be overcooked at least not to the extent ours was (asked medium rare and came out medium well). The prices are expensive and a dinner out for two people is a significant bill so at that price its disappointing to see the steaks much smaller than they used to be and overcooked. After this experience we won't be back and I would try other steakhouses in the city prior to returning here.

While I was at this place I loved it. It just feels so high class and the staff are very attentive, not to mention the food (while pricey) was delicious. Though I'm not a steak connoisseur, I thought my steak was wonderful and cooked perfectly. My partner and I shared the potatoes roasted in duck fat and the mashed potatoes with lobster. To be honest, potatoes are generally not that special but the lobster made it feel decadent.

The issue I have now is the tartar we shared as an appetizer. At the time I quite liked the chips and the spicing on the meat. The mustard was very pronounced. However, I was nervous about raw meat and egg. The next day I had terrible terrible food poisoning and the only thing I think that could have caused it was the tartar.
I was sick from when I woke up until well after my body had emptied itself out. I was worried I'd have to go to the hospital and an ambulance bill on top of the restaurant bill would have made me even more miserable. I didn't want to eat or look at food, especially meat.

To sum, this place is wonderful but don't eat the tartar.

Can't recommend Modern Steak enough. We were impressed by the atmosphere of the restaurant, but even more so impressed by the service. We were educated on the difference between dry-aged and wet-aged beef and shared the 36 oz. tomahawk steak with mash potatoes and salad. The Lychee 75 - which was suggested by our server - and cookies & cream dessert is HIGHLY recommended. Thank you again, John, for the service and evening. We will definitely be back!

Felt in the mood for a good piece of meat last night and went with a friend to check it out. We had a superb meal, with first class service in a great restaurant. And a comprehensive wine list as well. There was nothing we could have possibly complained about. A+ all the way.

One of, if not the, best steakhouse in a steak mad city like Calgary. The Filet Mignon Trio was simply over the top! The atmosphere and the staff are fantastic and I absolutely adore the "Interesting" section of the wine list. Always something new to discover.

Some of the best steak iv ever had, get the 14 Oz ribeye! The server was very helpful explaining all the different farms the beef came from and he even bought us a drink because it was out anniversary. The free truffle popcorn to start is really good, make sure you get the muscles, the steak is some of the best in Calgary and the blueberry gelato desert was the perfect ending to the meal. Highly recommend this for a fancy night out.
