Monkey Temple connects appreciators and collectors of traditional Himalayan art with its creators. Art is embedded in the very way of life of the Himalayan people - ranging from their clothing (both traditional and adapted to suit modern tastes and requirements), to structural needs (elaborately carved pillars and windows), to multi-faceted idols of worship. The secrets of creating these pieces of art are handed down from one generation of craftsmen to the next. However, with cheap mass manufactured products flooding the market, the demand for cottage industry products is declining, as is the means of livelihood for traditional artisans. By identifying appreciators of traditional clothing, jewelry, masks, and idols, Monkey Temple seeks to find a means to sustain the cottage industry in Nepal.
