At it's prime, NSD Athletic Development was one of a kind, and an excellent gym to train at. The large selection of workout equipment, excellent prices, and small number of guests, even at peak times, made this gym a hidden gem.

This gym has since been purchased, and re-branded to Big Sky Fitness. You may see my review of Big Sky Fitness on their new Google Maps page.

Excellent club for anyone who is into sports or basic general training. The club is well designed to meet the needs of both professional athletes and people looking to stay in shape!

Six to seven months ago I would have given NSD a solid 5/5 and would happily recommend it to anybody. However, since the new questionable changes that were made in fall 2016, it would be an insult to any avid gym goer to recommend NSD to them now.

The gym originally had tons of space, with a room for cycling classes/a room to stretch and warm up in with dumbbells if no classes were going on, a studio with multiple punching bags, railings for TRX, and warm up equipment/stretching equipment (foam rollers, bands, etc). Since the changes, all the punching bags except for one have been removed, and a huge metallic set of monkey bars promised to be installed 5 months ago sits on the floor of the studio. The cycling classroom is completely unusable, and has been blocked off for 7 months - all that remains is old gym equipment and boxes. The cycling classroom has literally been converted into a storage room - wasted space.

The gym was great! It had about four to five squat racks (including a power rack), two flat bench presses, and incline and decline bench press, three leg presses, two multi-use cable fly machines, lots of dumbbell racks that were nicely organized, and almost every single machine you could think of - however, THIS IS NO-LONGER THE CASE.

Management removed a large portion of the gym and converted it to turf/grass that's almost never used by gym-goers. The only people I've seen use it are group fitness classes , and at most use it for an hour or two several times a week. It's basically wasted space a majority of the time. The turf installation forced a removal of a majority of the most used equipment for the gym. A bench press was taken away, a decline bench press was taken away, a cable fly machine was taken away, and the dumbbell racks are incomplete - forcing dumbbells to be put in incorrect places, a leg press was removed, and so much more important machines taken away for the grass. Multiple cardio machines were removed to fit the equipment that was moved, and the gym is honestly such a big mess.

Two new "Olympic Weightlifting platforms" were installed. These platforms are a joke. They're not even the correct full size for olympic weightlifting, and trying to even perform a split jerk on their platforms would be dangerous for anyone over 5'10"/with long legs; you'll simply land outside the platform and injure yourself. Not to mention, chalk is banned? At best, they're overpriced deadlift platforms, again wasted space. A pressurized cable fly machine was also installed, this again is also wasted space as no one uses it. Why use a pressurized cable fly machine when there was a weighted one originally there with more precise resistance settings? A double incline jumping platform was also installed - however I've only seen this used during hockey season - even then I've only seen it used for thirty minutes at max. Again, wasted space.

Does anyone see the reoccurring pattern here? WASTED SPACE. Grass replaced half of the most used equipment in the gym. At what cost? To tailor to fitness classes, and be used almost never by gym-goers? The only time I see the grass used by gym-goers is when there's no space in the studio, or if people want to do walking lunges.

This gym seems confused to who they want to tailor to. Fitness classes, powerlifters, olympic weightlifters, athletes avid gym-goers? It's just a big disappointing mess. This gym had a lot of potential, but it was wasted for absolutely no reason.

This gym promises to get things done, but it never happens. A urinal in the men's washroom has been "temporarily broken" for several months now, the monkey bars in the studio are "going to be hung soon!" and the old cycling classroom is "temporarily out of door!" according to all their signs.

Does anyone know any good gyms close to NSD that I can attend? This one just hit rock bottom.

Great facility, contracts required and bad parking.
