Num-Ti-Jah Lodge

About Num-Ti-Jah Lodge

Num-Ti-Jah is an Historic Lodge located on the shores of the magnificent Bow Lake.

Num-Ti-Jah Lodge Description

In 1937, the Banff-Jasper highway was completed as far as Bow Lake. Jimmy, his wife Billie and their children Margaret, Mary and Jimmy jr. began expanding on the original dream of a "shack". With the earnings from Margaret and Mary's professional ice-skating tours, the building of Num-Ti-Jah Lodge began. In 1940, the Lodge had six guest rooms. By 1950, a beautiful log and stone hotel with 16 rooms stood on the shores of Bow Lake.

In the fifties and sixties, Jimmy Simpson's reputation attracted tourists keen to hear his stories. While Jimmy became a living legend, his son took charge of the Num-Ti-Jah operation. Jimmy jr. has his own mountain stories from an outfitting career that spanned thirty-five years ending in 1974, two years after his father died. Although he retired from managing Num-Ti-Jah Lodge in 1996, with his remarkable memory, he is the keeper of the old tales of Bow Lake.

Num-Ti-Jah Lodge hasn't changed much since it was completed in 1950. What you'll see and feel here is the dream of the Simpson family. We invite you to learn our story.

What a great find! Built in the 1920s to last, this place has loads of character. And the views from the rooms are spectacular. The one restaurant has a limited selection but all food was excellent.

We stay here at end of May this year it was a lovely experience, and my bed was superb, did not want to get out of it, we had an evening meal and a lovely breakfast, will go back, staff were brilliant .

Unforgetable.

Words do not suffice, nor even pictures.

Stayed for two nights in Sept. This was such a quirky, quaint place to stay. Great staff, restaurant and location. If you want clean, comfortable lodging with a staff that goes out of their way for you then this is the place. And the view....can't say enough.

Rustic beauty, comfort, and joy. I'm looking forward to come back.

Perfect solitude and romantic getaway! The only thing I would suggest is that there be coffee available to early risers, or coffee machine in the rooms since the staff ,as well as coffee is not available until 8 am.

Just loved it. Among all lodges in this national park, it is the one I prefered. And the place is amazing for trek and rest. I cannot wait to go again to the Rockies and come back to Num Ti Jah Lodge !

I remember the whole 18 months working there, people from all over the world being completely gob smacked saying it was the most beautiful place in the world. It's been 15 years since I left and still talk about it almost every day!!!

How can you not stay in such a beautiful historical lodge?! Right next to Bow Lake, you can walk to the shore. Amazing wildlife viewing, two grizzlies to photograph in the meadow. Staff was fantastic, food exceptional, especially breakfast. I made a comment on the wonderful granola and the chef came out with a printed copy of the recipe.

After I made an error in our reservations at Num-Ti-Jah the Innkeeper came to our rescue. She made some suggestions to help us out! We took one of her recommendations and everything worked out fabulously!!! The Innkeeper went above and beyond to assist in making our trip continue without a problem. It is a beautiful place to visit and stay. We enjoyed our stay. Again thank you!!! ;)

The lodge is set in an amazingly beautiful surroundings and dinner was so delicious! I had the venison, my husband had the salmon and we shared the chocolate chip cookie sundae that came in a hot pan - all so scrumptious! We stayed the night on 9 June 2017, and we woke up to the unexpected snowfall the next morning that made the surrounding look like a winter wonderland! It was wonderful to get to experience 2 seasons, and hence, 2 different and gorgeous sceneries in 2 days! It would be an added bonus to our experience to have had a coffee maker in the guestroom though.
