Osvita: The Ukrainian Culture Experience

OSVITA is a Ukrainian cultural immersion summer program for high school students located at, and operated by, St. John’s Institute in Edmonton, Alberta.

What is OSVITA?

OSVITA is a Ukrainian cultural immersion summer program for high school students, located on Edmonton's vibrant Whyte Avenue, and operated by St. John's Institute (SJI). During OSVITA, students reside at SJI and experience complete immersion into Ukrainian culture.

OSVITA 2014 runs from June 29th-July 26th. The registration deadline is May 15th, 2014, and the early-bird deadline is March 31st, 2014.

Since 1979, OSVITA has been a destination for youth wanting to learn Ukrainian language and about Ukrainian culture in an exciting and interactive environment. Over the past three decades, OSVITA has delivered quality cultural programming and excursions, and that tradition continues today with the added twist of more adventure! OSVITA is the most unique Ukrainian cultural summer experience in Canada!

If you want to meet new people from across Canada, and have a summer jam-packed with Ukrainian culture, Alberta adventure, tons of fun, and new experiences, then OSVITA is for you!

OSVITA is the whole package; we combine high-quality programming with the best of summer!

Students from all across Canada and abroad come to St. John's Institute (SJI) in Edmonton, AB for four weeks to enjoy:

• interactive Ukrainian language learning classes
• cultural activities such as Ukrainian dance, bandura, tsymbaly
• workshops in Ukrainian traditions, arts, and cuisine
• sessions on Ukrainian folklore, literature, history, and spirituality
• guest speakers on Ukrainian-Canadian topics
• learning about contemporary Ukraine
• leadership workshops and activities
• exciting excursions and adventures in Edmonton and across Alberta!

In addition to Ukrainian language instruction by some of Alberta's finest teachers, and workshops by skilled guest instructors, OSVITA students are supported by OSVITA’s knowledgeable and talented staff, who are with students every step of the way!
