Park Girls Volleyball Club Description

The following statements are some of the guidelines and expectations that will govern how the Park Girls Volleyball Club will run this season.

Commitment
Our coaches are knowledgeable and dedicated. They expect the same dedication from their athletes. Our coaches are excited about working with these athletes and bringing the girls together as a team! As well, parental support is important and vital to achieving our team and club goals.

To improve the existing abilities of each player and develop new skills.
To work with athletes in attaining their individual goals.
To encourage a strong work ethic.
To encourage good sportsmanship and fair-play.
To experience the excellent competition found in Alberta and Canada
To encourage former Park athletes to return as coaches.
Priorities
We understand that there are many opportunities for young people in our community. The coaching staff of the Park Girls Volleyball Club will be sensitive to the fact that athletes have other commitments and sporting events besides club volleyball. We ask that you work with your specific coach to find a suitable balance if involved in more than one sport.

Playing Time
We recognize that each player will bring different strengths and abilities to their respective teams. Our coaches will use these individual talents in order to achieve team goals. Playing time at the U14 and U15 level is governed by Alberta Volleyball’s fair play rule, where each athlete must start either game 1 or 2 of a match and substitutions cannot be made until 1 team reaches 15 points, except in the case of injury. Playing time at the U16 /U17 elite levels is not equal. It is tied to numerous factors such as player position, athlete’s strengths, athlete’s versatility, substitution rules, momentum of the game, where the team is placed in the tournament etc. Playing time may also be connected to the athletes level of commitment to the team, i. e. missing or being late for practice. Each coach will have his or her own philosophy regarding playing time, and have been asked to openly discuss this during their parent meetings.

Practice
The main focus of club volleyball is player development. Playing club volleyball can often be the difference between making an athlete’s future school, provincial, college, or university team. Practices are the most important part of the club volleyball season. Each coach will have his or her own philosophy regarding missing or being late for practices.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Drugs.
The use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs is strictly prohibited for Park GirlsVolleyball athletes. Anyone caught using these substances during tournaments or practices will be subject to consequences.

Swearing, Fighting
When representing the club, players are expected to conduct themselves in a suitable and respectful manner. Swearing or fighting of any kind not only brings the team down but it casts an unfavorable light on the club. Arguing with the officials during matches or tournaments is not acceptable or tolerated at any time.

Our coaches can’t wait to get started! !
