Peter Nieman, Md, Pediatrician - Iahcp

Dr. Peter Nieman is an established pediatrician, working at the Calgary Pediatric Weight Clinic in Downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Dr. Peter Nieman is a pediatrician dedicated to working with and helping parents raise healthy children. He started his practice in 1987. His practice includes two clinics: the pediatric obesity clinic in N. W. Calgary and an ambulatory pediatric clinic in South Calgary.

Currently he appears on CTV Morning TV bi-weekly and QR 77 radio every week. He is also a panelist on CTV2 ‘s Alberta Primetime. Since 1999 he has written monthly articles for the Calgary Herald.

He served on the Canadian Pediatric Society’s Healthy Active Living Committee and Physician Resource Council for Focus on the Family. He is a member of the Alberta Pediatric Association, the Canadian Pediatric Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics. (AAP) Since 2008 he has been the President of the Alberta Chapter of the AAP. He teaches as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Calgary.

Between 2010 and 2012 he wrote weekly articles for Canada’s national newspaper, The Globe and Mail, on pediatric topics of the day.
Previously, Dr Nieman served on the National Advisory Committee on Physical Activity, Healthy Active Living for Children and Youth, and the Canadian Pediatric Society’s Psychosocial Committee. He has been part of the Obesity Management and Prevention Committee of the Alberta Medical Association and sat on the Academic Advisory Board of the National Foundation for Family Research and Education. He is past- President of the Canadian Pediatric Society’s Section of Community Pediatricians and the Canadian Christian Medical and Dental Society (1998-2000).

Dr. Peter Nieman obtained his undergraduate degree at Tygerberg Hospital in Capetown, South Africa in 1979. Moving to Calgary in 1983, he completed his residency at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. He became Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Pediatrics) in 1987.
A devoted runner, Dr. Nieman runs daily and completed 84 marathons, including 2 Boston marathons, with a goal to run 100 marathons before age 60.
