Rich Hesketh - Coaching Description

Rich Strength and Conditioning Coach for the University of Calgary Dinos Men's and Women's Basketball teams, Kelly Tan, LPGA and Dan Pow PGA, Rich sees “coaching” as both an art form and a technical skill. His passion is to make you a better athlete and then apply the athleticism to your sport of choice.

His programs are designed with two primary goals. The first is to improve athletic performance in the area of speed, strength, and power. He can develop systematic training programs for both teams and individual athletes.
This usually includes teaching proper lifting techniques, supervising and motivating athletes as they work out, and assessing their performance before and after the program.

The second primary goal is to reduce injuries. Rich's programs are design to strengthen body parts that are prone to injury in any particular sport.

Rich was the Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Calgary Flames Hockey Club from 1995-2014. During that time he also coached track and field for 17 years, including Speed-Power Track & Field athletes for the University of Calgary Dinos who won 3 Canada West Conference titles and the 2007 CIS Women's Championship, and the Speed and Power group of the Calgary Spartans. Rich enjoyed contributing as a consultant for NIKE Hockey Conditioning programs for 6 years and has consulted for Under Armour on hockey training projects.

Athletes that Rich has trained have gone on to be Canadian national team members, World Champions, Olympic Champions and Stanley Cup Champions.

Rich graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Physical Education. Training for Decathlon brought him to Calgary, Alberta so he could be coached and mentored by Les Gramantik, long time head coach for Athletics Canada. He was a Canadian National Track & Field Team Member for 9 years and ranked in the top 3 Canadian decathletes from 1988-1997, representing Canada 11 times including two Francophone Games, two Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games and was the 1988 Canadian Decathlon Champion.

He continues to be a passionate public speaker with a results-oriented approach to training to motivate groups and individuals. Rich can be heard regularly on radio programs and seen on Flames TV, Pay Per View, Breakfast Television Calgary and various media promotions.
