Ridge Lane Ranch

Ridge Lane Ranch is a family farm located by Vegreville, AB. In addition to selling breeding stock, we also do direct sales of beef, pork and poultry.

Ridge Lane Ranch is a family farm located in Alberta, by Vegreville. We were founded in August of 1979 by a set of freshly-married farmkids (Jim and Hedi), who, with a lot of love, perseverance, hard work and faith in God, raised four children - who are now working on raising their own children - and many, many more animals!

Today, Ridge Lane Ranch is home to a variety of cattle breeds. We have a commercial herd and also run purebred Gelbvieh and Speckle Park cattle. We're a little bit fond of the horned breeds and have a few Highlands, Longhorns and Brahmas in our herd as well - jazzes things up a bit!

In addition to cattle, we have llamas, pigs and horses, and, at certain times of the year, chickens and turkeys. We've been known to bring a variety of other creatures home (goats, sheep, doves, etc) from time to time as well. A bunch of cats and our Lab cross dog, Honeybear, round out the host of characters on the ranch. (The free-range gophers and pigeons are probably worthy of mention, as well! )

While we are no longer into growing cereal crops, plants are still very important to us! We believe in staying away from pesticides and herbicides in order to turn out nutritious plant food for ourselves and our animals. A huge garden every summer means that we get to eat our own fruits and vegetables for quite a large part of the year - oh so tasty!

We strive to be good stewards of the earth by being friendly to our animals and our environment. We are committed to raising our animals as naturally as we can, without added steroids or hormones, and we incorporate a variety of grasses, legumes and other plants into our pastures to help promote soil health. Healthy soil is lasting soil, and without lasting soil. . . well. . . WE wouldn't last!
