Routes Car Rental

The rental was offsite - minor inconvenience but it turned out to be a straightforward rental transaction. I did turn the car in a day early, there was, apparently, going to be an additional charge - not sure why. I ended up owing $5. The Dodge van did NOT have blue-tooth. Maybe in Canada blue-tooth is not allowed to establish a hands-free phone set up.

Unfortunately my experience with this company was most unsatisfactory. I initially tried to book a vehicle on line for a rental 24hrs later from the Calgary airport location. After entering all personal and billing information and hitting the reserve button, a red bannered screen appeared advising that the " booked date/ time was unavailable please re submit". I couldn't see why the information wouldn't have been accepted so resubmitted my request with the same result.
I contacted the Calgary office who advised that they didn't have any of the types of vehicles I had tried to reserve book could provide me with a vehicle for 3x the price of the original quote. I declined, went to the Costco travel website and successfully booked my vehicle with Budget, albeit $17.00 more but with pickup at the airport terminal not the Mickey Mouse pickup routine Routes offers.
Imagine my surprise when I checked my email to find out I now had 2 confirmed car bookings with Routes as well as with Budget.
So how I got from the original advisement that my booking was invalid to 2 bookings is beyond me. Phone calls to both the Calgary office and the 1-800 centre was just an exercise in futility. To add insult, after cancelling the bookings I didn't think I had made, my credit card was charged for 2 default charges for cancelling the booking within 48 hrs prior to pick up.
Sorry to be so long winded but hell will freeze over before I deal with this company again.

First time client. Exceptional experience. Did not find shuttle to/from pick up/drop off location cumbersome.
Q80 almost new. Very friendly and polite staff. No issues whatsoever. Will rent from them again in future if available where I am going.

We had a great experience. Reserving, picking up and dropping off the car was flawless. The people were nice and courteous. We were skeptical about using a new company we never heard of, but their prices were the lowest. And the quality of experience was top-notch. I would definitely rent from here again, with confidence.

Important to note: When you arrive at the airport, you call a number and a shuttle picks you up to take you to the rental place. When you return the car, the address doesn't show up on GPS so you have to know where you're going before you start your drive. Also, there is a sign that says there is a $10/day fee if you take the car out of Alberta.

Not a long wait for the shuttle. Drive is short to the rental place. It seems small at first but we were in and out in 10min with a Jeep Sahara 4x4. We had originally booked a Economy vehicle so the upgrade was VERY welcomed, not to mention an unknown necessity at the time as we were going up to the Canadian Rockies. I want to thank everyone at Routes for making our trip a once in a lifetime experience and very memorable. We had no problems returning the vehicle either. It took 5min! So unbelievably fast, easy, and everyone there is so friendly! Would definitely recommend and return!

Good rates and I really liked the car I had. I did a lot of driving and the mileage was excellent. However, with me being from out of town and not knowing my way around very well, and with all the construction in the area, it would have been much easier to rent something from one of the rental agencies at the airport.

This rental company is not on airport grounds, but they provide a free shuttle for the quick (less than 10 min) drive to the rental office. Our reservation was somehow lost, but they were very professional and were able to put us in another rental car. It just added some time to complete all of the paperwork from the original reservation. It is definitely a budget company, but we got a vehicle that was safe and got us around...and at a great price. Staff was also very pleasant to work with. I would use this company again.

I've used Routes Car rental in Calgary for three years. The price beats name-brand rental companies by a lot and the cars (in the economy range at least) are the same. On my latest trip in May 2017, I was happy to see that their 0ff-site location has moved closer to the Calgary airport. They will send a shuttle to get you but there is no longer a direct line at the pickup point. Make sure you bring their Calgary phone number and a cell phone. I didn't and had to borrow a cell and phone their head office to get the number. Otherwise, the car, service, etc. was great.

A ripoff!!!!! You literally have to fill up the tank so the gasoline is in the reserve to show FULL on the needle.
I would NEVER recommend this company
Have a FULLY LOADED CAR and got a basic KIA sedan. Not even cruise control.
I will be reporting this company. As soon as you accuse them, they communicate to each other in their Indian mother tongue.
Was given this company because they were next door to Fix Auto as I had hail damage to Fix. I won't ever recommend them. The one guy even tried to charge me for a chip in the windshield which was already noted when I picked up the basic vehicle.
