Russo Greek Catholic Orthodox Church Of St. James Description

In 1904, 17 families came together to build St. James, which was originally located 300 yards west of the current location.

Consecration of the completed church occurred on August 6th 1904 and was done by Bishop Tikhon of the Russian Orthodox Church of Aleutians and North America.

1942 the church was moved to its current site and a proper foundation was made. It took a great deal of effort to jack and roll the church with the help of a tractor to pull the church to this spot. Power was brought in to the church, stucco was added to the outside of the building, and a dome was added to the church.

The 1960’s brought the addition of the hall to the church property. The main part of the hall is a one room school that was purchased and moved here from Paulus. The kitchen area was added on. This building is an important part of the property as it houses social meetings after church services, and funeral services.

In the 1980’s focus was placed on beautifying the Iconostasis. This project was taken on by Borden Koroluk and John Chmilar.

1990’s brought the addition of the washroom facilities and running water to the hall.

In 2004 the Parish celebrated 100th Anniversary
This church is one of the oldest sanctuaries in Lamont County.

Since then work continues to maintain and beautify the church and hall.

Feast Day of St. James is November 5th.

Red is the color attributed to this feast day.
