We hope you're staying cool on this hot, smoky afternoon! In a heat wave like this one, everything seems to move in slow motion, and our plants are stuck facing the worst of it outdoors. We have some tips on how to keep them from tapping out in the heat: http://bit.ly/2AYWH84

Have you seen these little red bumps on your willow leaves? These galls are unsightly, but are only cosmetic and do little or no harm to the tree. Rake up and destroy leaf litter at the end of season - that's where little willow redgall sawflies pupate!

Happy Heritage Day! It's a beautiful day out there - we hope you're enjoying the sunshine. Our holiday hours for today are 10am - 5pm.

A light breeze can often be a good thing in our yards, especially on a hot summer day. Our plants catch a glimmer of this passing air and ripple with colour and invigoration. When a strong wind comes knocking, it can actually be one of the most destructive forces in our gardens. It tears through, leaving only tatters behind. Dig in with Rob for some tips on how to create a wind-resistant garden on this week's blog: http://bit.ly/2OcUbfY

We captured some beautiful creations made in our Dritftwood Succulent Planter and Cactus Garden workshops last weekend. Kim's first workshop rule is "get dirty", and we had a great time doing just that - check out all these smiling faces! 🌱

Keep your eyes peeled for signs of fire blight – this notorious bacterial tree disease is contagious, so you definitely don’t want it hanging out in your backyard. Watch for infected leaves and branch tips wilting rapidly, turning brown or black, oozinge orange-brown liquid, or wilting into a hook shape.
To control the disease, prune and remove diseased wood, including a healthy foot of wood as a buffer. Destroy all diseased wood, and disinfect your tools, which can spread the disease as you clip. If you're battling a severe case, don't hesitate to consult an expert!
If you’re interested in knowing more, check out the following article by Rob Sproule, or give our experts a call! http://bit.ly/2LQCXaM

One of most common trees around Edmonton, the mountain ash is also one of the easiest to grow and one of the few hardy trees that are beautiful for all 4 seasons. From producing flowers and berries to attracting birds and just plain looking great, they’re remarkable trees. Dig in with Rob to read more about growing mountain ash: http://bit.ly/2K7NQjN

Drought happens. Our plants become weak, powerless to defend themselves against pests, diseases, or even winter. It doesn’t have to be a death sentence for our plants, though. Despite all that can happen, we as gardeners can help our plants thrive even in the dry heat. Dig in with Rob to read about how on this week's blog: http://bit.ly/2LuKbC1

We had a special visitor in the greenhouse today! Grover belongs to a long time staff member, and comes in to visit from time to time. This big guy is well behaved, very gentle, and showed his mom lots of love while all the curious folks took pictures and fawned over his beautiful feathers.

Yesterday I attended the kokedama workshop taught by Kim. It was my first time at Salisbury greenhouse. Kim did an outstanding job of teaching. The instructions were easy to follow and she was very passionate and knowledgeable about the plants we had access to. I love how my creations turned out and was surprised that my supplies went further than I thought they would. We didn't have a ton of time to look around the rest of the greenhouse but I did notice that some of the plants seemed a bit cheaper than at other greenhouses I've been to. All of the staff were friendly. It was a nice place to visit on a cold, snowy day and I can't wait to go back. Also, they had a sign on the door that said "dogs welcome". If that's true, it would be a nice trip for our little family.

User

Workshop was great! Fun way to spend a snowy Saturday!

User

Shout-out to Brett who dropped what he was doing yesterday to show me when the pear trees were, put it on the cart, prepped the tree for transport and offered to bring it to my vehicle and load it up if I would have needed it. He did all of this with a smile and no hesitation...even though it was 34 degrees out!! Great service Brett and truly appreciated!!

User

Omg so much fun! Kim was amazing as an instructor. I wasn’t expecting to learn as much as I did about the history of terrariums! She made it really fun and interesting. Definitely interested in other programs here

User

User

Attended the Hobbit Garden class and loved it! Kim and the other staff were terrific and helped make the class fun and engaging. It was my first time at Salisbury and I will definitely be coming back!

User

Excellent, wine, fruit and lots of nice things to see

User

Attending my first class. Instructors and staff were great. It was all well set up and there was great variety to choose from. I would give it a 5 but found the prices on some items quite high. Being unfamiliar with prices I was not sure if it is expensive compared to others.

User

Worst customer service ever. Staff doesn’t know where plants are. Tellers are rude and slow. Stood in line to purchase plants for 20 minutes while staff giggled and ignored customers. Left plants and walked out. Going to Greenland Garden Centre.
